not quite wanky, but still..
Because you can never get sick of Aspie!Wank.

firecrest is sick of the Us vs. Them mentality.

Unfortunately, their mention of Hitler seems to rub some people the wrong way. Annnnd...Godwin's Law is violated.

Of course we're angry! Look at how NT society feels it's acceptable to treat our kind! (NT='Normal' people, btw)

It's small, but lovely, all the same. I never get sick of Hitler being thrown into every single disagreement on the face of the earth.

Oookaaayyyy.

First what the fuck is an NT?

Second: -- Murdering an autistic child or adult results in less punishment than killing an animal. In fact, it's considered an "understandable" crime, and many of the murderers get off with NO punishment.

And I guessed I missed yet another memo where I was told it was okay to kill autistic people.

Is there some precedence for this?

NT, I think, stands for NeuroTypical. It means the 'Normals'.

None that I'm aware of. But I haven't been in Aspie communities for very long, so I'm not familiar with the urban legends.

Sad thing is that I think the OP may have had a good point buried under the flagrant abuse of Goodwin's Law and the inability to use the shift key or apostrophes.

I mean I think there tons of folks out there who seem hellbent on being victims, which makes it harder for people who actually need help to get it.

There has been abuse in mental health facilities (some of the victims were low-functioning autistic people), and I remember one case where the parents got a low sentence for killing a low-functioning autistic child. Some autistic adults report unhelpful social workers, stereotypes and red tape. Other than that, this is not "OMG j1h4d against the autistic!!111!" as "Low budget + incompetance + ignorance = bad bad things." Granted, there is a lot of ignorance out there ('no empathy' doesn't mean sociopathy, it means 'no idea why people do stuff') and I much rather have some compromise between my weird behavior and the rest of the world.

(Also, I resent being told that taking Wellbutrin and making small efforts to improve social skills mean that I am giving in to Da Man. Maybe it's a good idea that I don't have it on my friends list).

Killing autistic people

There's a case going on in Sydney right now - a severely depressed woman killed her autistic son and has pleaded guilty to manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. She hasn't been sentenced yet (that's tomorrow), but there is a possibility she may not go to prison at all.

(I think sometimes it is understandable, in that I can understand how someone might be driven to kill a person who was abusive, who could not be made non-abusive, and whom they were unable to leave. It's a pretty hopeless situation.)

(And I only remembered this because I read it this morning, not because I have a big file on how all autistic people are being oppressed by all non-autistic people or anything.)

/So what you're saying is that we are like Hitler?/

I'm like Hitler. I like dogs. And I'm kinda short. And I'm a mediocre, burned out artist. But that's not the point.

I can see where an Us vs. Them Mentality can be really tiring. However, Hitler is always off limits. If you compare Hitler to anyone, ever, you will be wrong. Yes, even in the case of another genocide. Found this out in anthropology when we learned about the Tazmanians. Some kid got roasted by the class.

For those wondering...
[info]khym_chanur

"Aspie" = "sufferer of Asperger Syndrome", which:

is a neurobiological disorder named for a Viennese physician, Hans Asperger, who in 1944 published a paper which described a pattern of behaviors in several young boys who had normal intelligence and language development, but who also exhibited autistic-like behaviors and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. In spite of the publication of his paper in the 1940's, it wasn't until 1994 that Asperger Syndrome was added to the DSM IV and only in the past few years has AS been recognized by professionals and parents. I didn't know that it wasn't really recognized until 1994. Now I know.

normal intelligence and language development, but who also exhibited autistic-like behaviors and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between Asperger Syndrome and autism? And I know that there is a disproprotionate amount of autisic men to women, is it the same way for aspergers?

Just from looking at the summary, it seems to me that AS is just a particular kind of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder combined with really bad social skills. I'd go over to an AS comm and ask, but my asbestos underware is currently being washed.
