I'm glad the moderator is happy with herself being a healthy individual. I don't see the glamor in staying caught up in that hellish mindset. Those people need to get help, not continue to sit around and encourage each other.

The mod is standing up for what she's come to believe in and they're trying to talk her out of it? They're angry at her for getting better! What kind of sense of community is that? They support each other? To kill their bodies slowly apparently. I just have to wonder about people.

I only read part way down, their attitudes are obnoxious, but you have to admit, this is one of the best quotes out of the whole wank:

As a recovered anorexic, myself, I really do applaud her for finding herself and deciding to turn the community into something positive. I may join it myself with my own story.

Those who want to continue eating 100 calories a day, however, are still living in the land of denial.

Exactly. I hope she keeps getting better for her own sake, because it doesn't seem like she's got much support there.

Besides, as sad as it is to say, it's not as if these people have no place else to go on the net. Anyone can make a LJ community or a Bravenet MB, after all.

It sounds like to me that you went on a series of fad diets, called it anorexia, then started a community, found out they were real people out there with this disorder that were in worse shape than you, then you backed away from this community, went on a regular diet, managed to lose weight so you could come back and tell us how the ana diet doesn't work. Oh please! You think any of us can just stop being anorexic because it doesn't work. You're full of shit and you were nothing but a poser to begin with.

I really felt for these people until I clicked on the link for the new community, and - gack! "I'm fasting, who's with me?" This is support?

Posts that say things like, "I'm 93 lbs! SO fat! Must only eat 9 calories today!" scare the holy crap out of me. It's like watching someone hang themselves right in front of you, and be unable to stop them.

I don't think I'll be visiting any pro-ana communities in the future.

Let's see, long story short, I'm a recovered anorexic myself as well. It is a psych disorder that's not always necessarily based on whether or not you feel pretty because you starve yourself. In my case, I just felt worthless enough that I didn't want to take up more space than I had to. Took me getting over denial and serious therapy to get better.

Now? I weighed in at 105lbs and cheered. It takes all sorts of balls to get over this bitch of a disorder, and she has all the right in the world to want to help people. These people though, I think for them, it is a lifestyle choice. They made the choice to starve themselves. Yes, they're still sick, but they made the choice to be that way.

Frankly, they deserve their fate.
