The Ultimate Godwin
Ladies and Gentlefolk, I submit to you the following:

The Bush-Cheney re-election campaign has just launched a new add which slanders John Kerry. Not only that, but it brings in the oh-so-fucktastically-subtle reference to -- you guessed it! -- Adolf Hitler.

The ad is up for viewing on http://www.georgewbush.com/. Watch. Stare. Boggle.

And witness the wankiest of wankity-wank in the politcal world.

That's... amazing.

It looks just like some 12-year-old's Newgrounds.com animation. All it needs is Vegita standing next to Micheal Moore, and maybe some Sonic the Hedgehog characters...

Man, first Ahnold announces that he wants to gas cute little kittens and puppies and now this... the Bush campaign, trying to point out that some nameless liberal has ott-ly compared Bush to Hitler, manages to produce a message so muddled that it looks like Bush is comparing Kerry to Hitler.

I don't think the Republicans are feeling very on-message today.

We're having a very off-message summer. All we need is a subliminal rat and it'll look *just* like the summer of 2000. *wince*

Incidentally, the email that came along with the ad to Bush volunteers explained this pretty well, but dude, if you HAVE to explain your ad, it sucks.

There, there. Just because liberals are so darn nice, we'll take all the awful stressful policy stuff off the Republicans' hands for four or eight years while they have an asprin and a quick nap. Then they can run McCain or Pataki or someone, and the current administration can all get nice cushy harmless jobs as figureheads on boards and in thinktanks, and it'll all be good. Or, at least, less bad. Or something.

Oh God, I was just watching this. It's actually pretty clever on Bush's part... He's gotten criticism for his exclusively negative campaign ads, so now he's pretending that Kerry's the one who's been talking shit, not him. Despite the fact that most of those people aren't too closely affiliated with Kerry (Michael Moore has his own agenda, and I'm nearly positive that the Gore speech is from when he was still endorsing Dean) and that those clips were not released as part of his official campaign, but were from various, unrelated speeches.

The biggest irony is that some of the footage is from Moveon.org (who are more extreme in their views than most liberals), and they rejected the Bush=Hitler footage for being too inflammatory. And now it's being presented as not just part of the liberal attitude, but Kerry's campaign platform.

God, I hate Bush so much right now.

Actually, I think it's from his recent speech to Moveon.org.

The biggest irony is that some of the footage is from Moveon.org (who are more extreme in their views than most liberals),

Huh?

Moveon.org wants to:

1) Get rid of Bush;

2) Hold Bush and his administration responsible for their lies and deceptions;

and 3) Help elect Democratic candidates to office.

Doesn't sound terribly extreme to me.

D00d...it's the left-wing conspiracy.

The guy who made the video is an operative from teh s00p3r-s3kkrit Democratic kabal o'doom (tm) (!!1!11!!!1!1!11!one!1!!) and has been sent to infiltrate the Bush camp for the purpose of undermining his apparently-Conservative themed ads by placing subtle ultra-sekkrit liberal shout-outs for members of the Democratic party to decipher.

MsA is obviously Mr. Kerry's new campaign advisor.

Well, in my book, Mr. Shrub has lost.

You know, I heard that in a recent Clinton interview, Bill went on about how Bush's stupidity is all a cover so he can do all that dumb crap and not be blamed because he's such a simple minded fool. How like them to spin such a story just so we don't catch on. I wonder how much they were paying Bill. They probably promised to buy a case of his next book.

Maybe Bush being all articulate and nice when Clinton's portrait was unveiled was 'OMG pr00f!!1!1!111' that he lets other people take the heat for his actions while being the 'good guy.'

Eh, well there actually was a book released that was something along those lines. (I think it was called The Bush Lexicon)

Basically that Bush and his advisers played up his stupidity to make him look less like someone from a wealthy family who had an easy path through life, and more like an average dude everyman type character that voters can relate to. (i.e. "Hey! He doesn't always pronounce words correctly! I do that to! He isn't some sort of snobby intellectual!" *votes accordingly*)

It also served the double purpose of distracting the media from other faults in Bush's previous policy and character. He dumbness became his defining character stereotype and drowned out anything else about him. (like his lying about supporting the Patient's Bill of Rights while he was governor. I seem to recall that little was made of that compared to Al Gore's "I invented the internet" which, btw, he never said. :P)

I seem to recall that little was made of that compared to Al Gore's "I invented the internet" which, btw, he never said.

But which he could have, and not been exaggerating by much. Al Gore strongly supported the creation of the internet when he was a Senator and Vice President. Joseph E. Traub, a computer science professor at Columbia University, said Gore "was perhaps the first political leader to grasp the importance of networking the country." Without his initiative and support, I don't think the internet would be anywhere near as widespread as it is today. What has Bush done for us that has anywhere near as much practical use?

*nods* Right. I mean, I didn't care too much or read into it at the time, because I was younger then and wasn't politically aware. (actually, I think that my dislike of Bush led me to become the news junkie I am today :D)

But looking back it does upset me because the media (or parts of it at least. I guess it started in the rightwing sector and spread to the mainstream) took something that Al Gore had said which was true, and twisted it to make it sound not only that he had lied, but lied in such an arrogant and ridiculous manner. And that what should have been a plus point in his campaign (Al Gore: visionary! :P) turned into a subject of vast mockery.

there's a Snopes entry on the "quote" here.

Come to Canada where people with enough political ambition can create a party of their own and try their luck at getting a vote count over 500 per riding (voting district for anyone not familiar with the voting system in Canada).

In Canada, there is no such thing as a "two party system"...
