Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
this_is_warmth makes a community called lds_r_not_xtian, and pimps it around, with this:

This is a community for criticism of Mormonism in all its forms. It is a forum for those who hate Mormonism (although not a hate group), those who wish to defend their beliefs, and those who want an informed discussion on the facets of Mormonism.

Huge!Ass wank ensues.

Bonus points to millenial, for following up this:

The descendents of the founder of the Mormon church are alive and well today. Some of them live in Holland, MI. One of them was my roommate's friend. She has severe paranoid schizophrenia. In fact, the whole family does. In other words, it would be prudent to assume that the Mormon church was founded by a crazy, hallucinating man.

with this:

Also, I suggest that you completely remove the reference to 'hating' Mormons. That is an utterly un-Christlike thing to say.

Also contains discussion of what exactly defines a 'hate group', and the point that if they really want to 'discuss' Mormonism in a rational manner, calling the community 'lds_r_not_xtian' might not be a good idea going over the OPs head time after time after time.

Minorly wanky follow-up-post here. Because when she said hate, y'know, she didn't mean hate. Silly people for thinking so.

Because even in hate there is no equality. Their hate isn't, you know, hate. It's just hate. Not that other brand of hate, which is distinguishable from their brand of hate by the quality and clarity of the hate. Not to mention it's outdoor fresh scent! So when choosing hate, children, choose wisely. You wouldn't want your hate mixed up with, you know, hate.

Or something.

I didn't get it either.

You know, I have no great love for the Mormon church, but I don't care enough about hating them to start an entire community for it.

To what extent should Conservative Christians (CC's) and Mormons collaborate on political issues? Do CC's really want prayer/religion in public schools if all the members of the school board are members of the LDS church? Should CC's actively support Mormon political candidates because they share similar "moral values"? In states where conservative political organizations are dominated by Mormons, should CC's be more hesitant about endorcing an agenda they may not completely share? To what extent is the vision of America as a "Christian nation" influenced by the teachings of the LDS church?

And then, in the same reply:

While personally I don't think it should be significant whether one is in the "in group" or "out group"...

Riiiight.

And you gotta love the guy who implicitly compared Mormonism to racism and child abuse.

Ah, [info]christianitywank. I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning early afternoon.

My father did, too, when he first came to this country some 25-30 years ago! He told me that they have a Holland day and they do clog dances in the wooden shoes! Any town that dances in wooden shoes can't be wrong! (insert more exclamation points)

I'm sorry, but the irony in that is just too much. This is a place for people who hate X's guts, and we have great informed discusions - no bias here.

Interestingly enough I was told once that Mormons aren't Christian, but it was a dogmatic thing and not an "OMG! Look how screwed up they are!" thing. Something about how they don't belive that Christ was the Son of God but was the Holy Spirit made flesh or something like that. But I can't really remember and it (obviously) wasn't a Mormon, so I'm not sure.

And y'know, the Klan isn't a hate group, but they sure do hate a lot of people. So it would be prudent to assume that a group founded to hate Mormons is *gasp* a hate group. Go fig.

But we are called by the Great Commission to go out and spread the truth of the Gospels.

And this is my favorite. Since, who else has had a Mormon knock on their door at 9AM trying to convert you?

We usually get the Jehovah's Witnesses instead, because more of them live in the area. They must be pushing that angle as much anymore, because the last time they were here, I was handed an old, dirty, beat up pamphlet.

Nothing beats the houses that give out Chick tracts for Holloween, though.

I once heard a Mormon guy try to "share his witness" with some guy on the bus. I think it must have been part of his mandatory 2-year missionary work. (Why they thought Somerville would be receptive to LDS missionaries is anyone's guess.)

At any rate, I've never gotten any Elder Whatsis or Sister Whosis people showing up at my door. Which is just as well, because I'd have to point and laugh at any 19-year-old who called himself "Elder." And then I'd have to seduce him, because Mormon boys are insanely hot.

Heehee, Morman wank! One of my closest friend's is Morman (she in Arizona right now, preaching the word or whatever) and she always made me wonder why Mormons got a lot of flack because she was so chill about her religion. She's really into Buddhism and Hinduism as well. And she laughed when Homer saw Kodos and Kang at his door and called them Mormans.
