Randy what have you done?
Over in the S*P LJ Randy, the strips creator has ranted about the bad service he's gotten from his DSL provider Comcast.

He's not the only one as many other posters agreed that Comcast has a tendency to suck

Now a poster named Justsomeguy posts a link to a cartoon about someone else's annoyance with Comcast.

I found the cartoon pretty funny IMO

However Indigosky has a problem with this, because, I guess, it's wrong to infuriated with crappy service and to make jokes about it.

The whole thing is here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/som_pos/956548.html

I assume you've never been in a workplace that had hostile, potentially dangerous members of the public as a regular feature. Trust me, it's much less funny if you've ever had to deal with someone in person or on the phone who's out of control and picked you as a handy target, had your building emptied because of a bomb threat, or were the person to open the department's mail during the anthrax scare.

Actually yeah I have been in situations with dangerous or deranged customers, however I don't think the comic posted was trying to encourage people to go bomb Comcast.

I saw as someone who was frustrated with their service simply venting.

I doubt Randy will actually go bomb his internet service provider, just the person knew about his frustration and wanted to share something they thought was funny.

I do understand the point of the joke. I also understand why some people simply aren't going to react well to it, and I don't think they're unreasonable. It's not a case of "think of the CHILDREN!," it's "I have to face this bullshit every day in real life." I'm not sure that disagreement counts as wank.

Well I thought her response was wanky, though I can see where she's coming from.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here.

More than fair.

Now, personally, my beef with the 'toon Justsomeguy linked to was that it was poorly set up and told. Gilbert Shelton, f'rinstance, could've done it and made me wet my chair from laughing.

as a former slaveemployee of Cc, I'll advocate the use of WMD's on 'em.

Yes, but it's also terribly funny to watch Indigo humorlessly overreact to a joke, AGAIN.

Meh, I didn't find that funny, but it's nothing to have a spaz-fit over. Besides, don't we have bigger things to worry about - like whether the characters are BREAST-FEEDING THEIR CHILDREN??

(I'm sorry, Monique. Really, I am.)

You mean Davan isn't breastfeeding his children either?!

Eh, I'm not really seeing the wank. Some people have a low tolerance for funny violence, and it isn't wanking to say so aloud, especially if you're as polite as she was about it.

The wank is the fact that someone who has a "low tolerance for funny violence" is reading SOMETHING POSITIVE, of all comics. That's like reading Doonesbury and having a low tolerance for political humor.

Would you believe there are people who do that?

Eh. Reading a comic that regularly makes jokes about violence if you don't like that sort of thing may not be wise--but I don't think it's inherently wanky, especially since there's also a lot of humor not based on violence. Maybe she likes SP because it mocks self-centered people like Davan's co-worker, or because of the lesbian jokes or because they have a little bitty crush on Davan's dad.

Funny violence is not my favorite form of humor, and there are limits to how much I can take before it stops being funny. Neither SP nor the other cartoon are past those limits for me--but if tomorrow's strip pushed it too far for me, would it be wanky to say so? Assuming I didn't throw a giant hissy fit and start calling people Nazis, that is.

I just really do not see the wank in expressing polite disapproval when you don't think a joke is funny.

Fair enough. I didn't think it was the wankiest wank that ever wanked or anything, but I did find the "what is the world coming to that we find such awful things funny" hand-wringing a bit eye-rollingly overdramatic. If one doesn't find something funny, one ought to just say it doesn't match up with their personal sense of humor rather than wanking on about how saaaad it is that anyone else would be amused by it. If she hadn't done that, I wouldn't have found it wanky.

That aside, though, it really scares me how people think it's funny to consider bombthreatening someplace that provides them a nonessential service.

Yeah, because only essential service providers deserve bombing.

Not to mention that for some people, the internet is at least as essential as the telephone. My mother, does all of her banking on it, and all of her work-related e-mail. Not everybody uses the web exclusively for bumming around like me.
