*yaaaaaaawn* huh, what? oh right... *nods off again*
It's wanky. It's just not very heated. It's not a screaming catty "I H8 JOOOO" wank (yet), it's a "look how much more I know than you plebes" wank. It's a stuffy sticky lukewarm sort of wank.

In brief: [info]tzurriz and [info]stexgirl2000 have decided to mutually put other [info]metaquotes readers to sleep by droning on...and onnn...and onnnnnn about Orthodox Jewish traditions.

And to think this thread started off with the potentially racy subject of Lilith. Bah.

Somebody forgot that different people and denominations have different levels of observance. I heard of the boiling and washing of vegetables (mainly to kill insects) but not every Orthodox person does.

"This is why people go "OMG, U'r a Jew? U FREAK!""

Where? The reaction to Jewish people seem to be either non-reaction, curiosity or "OMG Killlllll them!"

(And Lilith? Eh. The story about her exile actually came from The Alphabet of Ben Sira supposedly written by the child of the prophet Sira and his daughter. The book parodies several different stories in the Torah, kinda like the Maddox of medieval times or something) More information is at Looking for Lilith. A whole bunch of other links about Lilith is at Lilith. Use her as a symbol, but there is a lot of disjointed information).

"The Alphabet of Ben Sira supposedly written by the child of the prophet Sira and his daughter"

Jeremiah, actually. Dammit.

Or, if you're me, "Oh, that's GREAT!" Like I just won the Nobel Prize or something. I never really got that?

Usually the reaction I hear is, "So, do you know where I can get a decent bagel?"

To which my answer would be, "In this town? Try Dunkin Donuts."

I never really got that.

A FOAF got that reaction too, though it was more "Oh that's wonderful, you're one of the Chosen People!" Mind, the person saying that was an evangelical Christian, so it may vary.

Seventh Day Adventists seem to be particularly thrilled at finding a Genuine Chosen Person (TM). Perhaps it's the same principle at work.
