Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
a drama of love
This is more baby!wank than anything else, but who knows what will come of it.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/magdalene1/265176.html

[info]magdalene1 writes a very touching article regarding a blind date she witnessed. She quickly gets tons of comments from other people thanking her for the article.

Today, [info]the_hamburglar goes around replying to EVERY SINGLE COMMENT saying "You're full of shit, and you'll never find love." (later on, other usernames are saying the same thing.) Someone ever comments "God, that's so gay."

[info]starsight links to an entry that is basically slamming the whole point of [info]magdalene1's article. [info]the_hamburglar, among others, cheer him on.

Stay tuned.

EDIT : Comments disabled! So no more wank! Aaww...

I r not smart. Where's this entry? I liked magdalene's post, but I kinda want to read the other one, too.

Seriously--that, plus "you'll never find love" seems like it's less a troll trying to piss people off than a really, really pathetic misanthrope of some kind.

Well either way, it's obvious they're not reading the comments, since there's been a few "that story is almost like what happened to me!" and the "[blank] years and going on strong!" posts and they still comment.

And I like this exchange:

Heeee. I just found her entry on LJ where she's giggling about the whole thing--it's turned into a whole thread:

I do have the say, the_hamburgler has a fucking hilarious icon - "watch me eat children", HEE!

And here is the link to starsight's comment: cynical, bitter story here. (Not that I don't find the original post a bit too treacly, but I think it's lovingly optimistic, which I appreciate).

Hm, so that's what that was about. I got one of those replies to my comment. Figured it was a troll so I just ignored it. Why can't everyone just ignore stuff like this? Ah, because then we would not have the wank.

What disturbed me about the article is that it reminded me of a lot of the socially awkward folks on alt.support.shyness who would build up similar stories, casting themselves in one of the roles and usually some random person they'd seen in the other. It was really creepy, and I don't think casting a second stranger in the fantasy removes that.

I have to agree, but in the journals you linked I think a poster made a good point when they pointed the fantasy didn't work for them because it was just unending bliss with none of the real life difficulties that couples often face.

Plus I really dislike the idea that I'm some sort of loveless misanthrope because I wasn't moved by someone's LJ entry.

But the_hamburglar please stay out of the bitterness and cynicism shtick, you're making bitterness and cynicism look bad.

I don't really believe in love at first sight and that sort of jive but, otoh, I thought that as a piece of writing on the western concept of romantic love I've seen much, much worse.

And yeah, the_hamburglar: Mindless misanthropy is, like, so over. You have to think about why you hate people now.

[info]starsight strikes me as your typical teenage misanthrope who thinks bitterness and cynicism somehow elevates him above everyone else. (Because yeah, been there. Then I graduated high school.)

I found this article through another set of posts commenting on it (here and here, if you're interested). The folk are still divided on the merits of the piece, but without devolving so far into fluffiness or bitterness. So it's possible.

Funny, I saw magdalene1's post was more a meditation on what can go right in relationships rather than "OMG MEANT 2 B!!" I do not need to read other people's post to wax bitter and cynical.
