The Little Cinder Girl Meets The Bookyoucrew
Here's a tale of literary wank. 'Tis small, but wanky and bite sized and tasty with mustard.

Once upon a time, Cinderjewel joined a community called thebookyoucrew. Bookyoucrew is a community that rates "your literary taste and knowledge (or lack thereof)." When you join, you must post a list of your top 20 books and then, they rate you.

So, Cinderjewel posts her list. It includes books written by Anne Rice, Laura Ingalls Wilder, J.K. Rowling and Alexander Dumas. The Bookyoucrew doesn't take kindly to the little cinder girl and give comments such as "this one is called "gag me with a spoon"
and "This list isn't worth voting on."

As per community rules, the poster is not actually allowed to comment until they've been accepted into the community. Unable to lie idly by, Cinderjewel fires back in her lj, not once, not twice, but thrice.

Will anyone live happily ever after here?

Edit: In her latest post, Cinderjewel writes "I'm ever so grateful no reported that whole epidone to FW. I would have been mortified, althought at the sime time, seriously amused"
Think we should break it to her? ;)

Edit 2: After the wank hits the fan, the moderator feels the need to address the unwashed masses crew and warn off all the literary peons here.

Edit 3: [info]ladybirdsleeps would like to pick your brains. She wants to know what Wankers' top 20 books are. Go here to read all about it and add your own choices.

Hello lovies. I must say I have the wonderfully dirty urge to check all their ages. Reading all that was to much like the time I wandered from my gave to that Starbucks place for a nice bit of tea to go with my troll sandwitch.

Tea?

I posted my list there:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/thebookyoucrew/109781.html

So far I've been told I make F. Scott Fitzgerald cry, [though Shakespeare, H.G. Welles and George Orwell don't have a problem with my list] and had Buffy quoted at me.

Could I get that made into an icon? 'I make F. Scott Fiztgerald cry'?

My first thought was to make notes on your list so I could make Fitzgerald cry on purpose.

...HATE GREAT GATSBY GRR...

So is F. Scott Fitzgerald the new baby Jesus?

And considering Gastby is also on my list, I imagine I make him cry too.

Fitzgerald is over-rated and I fucking hate Hemingway, though I agree with him when he says, "Poor Scott and his infautation with the rich."

I think, this journal entry of tom_servo's says a lot more about him than his comments in thebookyoucrew do (and those don't say much).

"I thought Ghost World was neat! Oh you didn't like it? Well, I hated it too!"

*blinks* He doesn't know how to spell "recommendation?"

I'm tempted to apply and run the books off the list I just abstracted for work (I abstract psychological books and journals.) They can try that for obscure.

And he has Robert Jordan listed among his interests - now *that*'s obviously high culture, unlike King... I wonder whether he put Jordan on his list.

Personally I enjoyed this post more; he's another of those "intelligent", "well-read" people who can't seem to grasp that creating a work of "art" is not something you can do because it's inherently "in" you; it is hard work, a process more than a result. The boy has no idea. About anything, I'd guess.

But who am I.

Is it wrong that I really want someone to apply listing the Draco Trilogy among their favorites? Just to see what happens, really. I predict that would be the point when the world just stopped. With no fuss at all, like in the end of that Arthur C. Clarke story. Except instead of discovering all of god's names, we'd just gone too far. It's the point where god says, "No, this is too much. Lights off. Think about what you've done."

Hee! I didn't like the DT myself, but still it would be incredibly amusing.

Then I'll throw in AtE, PtQ, and a few more. *rubs hands together and cackles evilly*

New personal policy

auto-no for the following: Rowling, Gaarder and Rice

so yeah...NO

Auto-no for Rowling? Doesn't that mean excluding, like, everybody? I think if you just made a list of obscure yet pretentious sounding books, these people would be all over you.

Well Rowling makes the the horrid mistake of being both easy to read and widely popular so naturally to these folks she must be 'TEH EVAL'.

I just wonder what they have against Dan Brown and Stephen King?

I just realized what REALLY bothered me about the way they rated people- they didn't give them any credit for the good classics they DID have on the lists, only took off for any non-elite writings. Or something.

Yanno, it's a funny thing...somebody early on mentioned Elizabeth Wurtzel as an author whose appearance on an applicant's list would result in an automatic ban, but IMNSHO, the Bookyoucrew all act just like her. (As in madly discussing all sorts of esoteric subjects in an attempt to prove how smart and cutting-edge they are.)

People...you gotta love 'em! *walks away humming, "Isn't It Ironic"*

Woah there cowgirl. It might be to your benefit to slow down when you type so the rest of us can actually read what the hell you're trying to say.

As for the community battening down the hatches like that. I'd say that my job there is done. I've already gotten banned because I OMG! Like, dared to talk to them!!1

Darlin', you might wanna consider quitting while you're ahead. We're not here to enact your righteous vengeance, and, to be frank, had you posted it, we'd have smacked you for doing revenge wank. As it is, cooling those jets and not gloating is probably the safest path right now. Cause you didn't do anything except post a list that was almost guaranteed to get smacked, and cause a stir afterwards. It's almost trollish behaviour, you know. SO I'd recommend you take the high road now.
