Baby animal wank

the OP found baby bunnies in her yard. She took photos/picked up one of the ones that was wandering around.

Earlier on she'd made a posts about a friend's faun and a (deadish looking) baby mole.

In this post [info]firinel asks why she handles wild animals.

EDIT: [info]conuly shows up in various threads in the comments (here notably) to explain why s/h/it is really annoyed about all this. Is warned by the mod about twice.

Not big, but neither is anything posted in the comm.

ps: I don't have an opinion on either side, but those are some very cute little bunnies.

Conuly continues over here. Just here for completeness.

People rototill compost piles? Man, what weenies! Pitchfork and shovel are the tools to use (and don't go jabbing like you're sporking your eyeballs, just turn the matter over). That's what builds upper bodies and is a great way to harvest angleworms.

If the rabbit kittens' mother was anywhere around (might've been out eating to build up the milk supply and had them hidden) she's probably been scared off because now they reek of Clueless Human. Sheesh. And the bit about washing a mole and handling it?? Moles are nasty tempered little suckers and best left alone.

I am about to get my wank on. Please wear goggles.

I now am fostering a young cottontail because some moron decided to scoop up the babies and move them out into a field near my house. Three out of the four I found were dead because the poor mother rabbit couldn't find her kittens and would have probably abandoned them anyway at that point. The fourth bun was severely malnourished and I've been incurring vet bills up the friggen ass to make sure she'll be alright.

Clueless Humans must die now.

Awww.. I hope the little one will be okay. My dad told us if we found a nest leave it alone, don't go disturbing it. We never found rabbit nests in our yard because the female rabbits didn't put them in our yard because of the cats (though there were plenty of teenage and mature rabbits hitting the garden)

Eee! Baby bunnies!

What? Oh, right. The wank. Pity the mod had to come in and give the modly smackdown.

As much as it pains me I have to agree with Conuly here.

Picking up baby animals is a big no-no. Not only can it lead to them being abandoned because of the scent but they can also bite and scratch you and I doubt wild rabbits have had all their shots.

Look, take pictures but don't touch! Not that hard folks, if you really wanna cuddle baby animals why not spend time at a local animal shelter?

Dude, it's not that these people aren't right to disagree with the way this woman treated these animals. It's just that they acted like enormous assholes about it, when she obviously did it because she didn't know any better.

Well I think Conuly was being a bit, er, aggressive about it but I can understand why folks were upset.

I just have trouble with folks who seem to have the impression that every animal is a pet of some kind.

I agree you shouldn't go picking up baby animals, but Conuly is a known troll. Remember this?

Jeez, I hate to say it, but people should quit bitching and just be glad she didn't call animal control or something on those little pests.

I've lost nearly all my strawberries, red peppers, and sunflowers to those hippity-hoppity fuckers this summer. If only they weren't cute.

The thing with the mole disturbed me. Not that she handled a wild animal OMG!! but because she took a legless, eyeless, furless grub of a newborn mole, took pictures, then pitched it on a compost heap singing "BORRRNNN FREEEEE!"

Uuuurgh.

If I'd found it, I probably would have put it in a jar of formaldehyde, I have to confess. Because it's doomed anyway, and how the hell often do you see a mole at that stage of development?

I was just going to post this! (Wait, should I be admiting that I read a comm for cute pictures of little animals?)

Anyway, yeah, picking up wild animals = not so much with the showing good common sense, but on the other hand where I grew up most people probably would have knocked them over the head, skinned them, and ate them, or just let the dog eat them, so I'm having a hard time working up my righteous indignation to a suitable level. Plus, these aren't baby California condors we're talking about here. They're rabbits. Mother Nature will make more, I promise!

The mole thing is just kind of peculiar, though. Makes the girl seem like whats-her-name from Animainiacs. (Elvira?)

And now I need to go hide under the bed and bemoan that I even remembered that.
