Childfree wank... in Customers Suck?
[info]rantpants (now that's a big red flag right there) posts a longass rant about posters in the [info]customers_suck community and the various ways in which they undermine their own credibility. Some of these include failing to spell, punctuate, or capitalize correctly; not breaking up their post into paragraphs; and using offensive speech.

Most people agree with what ey has to say, except for several who - I shit you not - object to is objecting to the word "crotchdropping," as used to describe a child.

Because not being able to call a child an offensive name is reining in their free speech, doncha know.

Additional bonus wank: Is "irregardless" a word?

Why the emphasis on child? Is it supposed to be more shocking/offensive/horribleterribleawful when someone calls kids nasty names than when they call adults equally nasty names?

Frankly, I think the "being mean to kids is JUST LIKE RACISM OMG" stuff is a) wanky and b) a very, very dead horse. As is coming into a community and telling said community all about how terrible it is and how it should change just for this person because he/she is obviously grand high ruler of the internet. But YMMV.

I don't get annoyed with kids. I get annoyed with their parents. Kids haven't been on this earth long enough to know how to behave without constant guidance. Adults have no such excuse. Blaming a kid for their parents failing to control them is like blaming a horse for being ridden hard and put up wet.

Well, if calling someone a Nigger is bad, so should referring to a child as a crotchdropping. I'd be rather pissed if people referred to my children in that manner. You don't like kids fine, but do you need to create new derogative terms for them? I'm uncomfortable around certain types of people but you don't see me making up junior high style nicknames to describe them.

I think i just broke a fandom law, oh well. The point is, calling anyone bad names is bad, mmkay? Wether they be child or adult.

I've no trouble calling an unruly demon of a child a "crotchdropping". (I likely wouldn't, because I don't like the word, but it's the sentiment that counts.) Yes, it's the parents' fault that the child behaves that way, but the fact remains - the child is fucking annoying. Parents who can't discipline their child shouldn't have had children in the first place.

Does that mean I hate all children? Well no, it doesn't, and I don't.

Except for the part where 'crotchdropping' isn't a term that invokes hundreds of years of slavery, oppression, brutality, and outright unpunished murder by socially powerful groups and individuals.

It just invokes phonetic dissonance.

It still isn't something one should call a child in their or their parents hearing range.

Perhaps not, but to compare it to the n-word is ridiculous. It's more like calling someone 'asshole.' (With an orifice reference and all.)

"Object to is objecting to the word 'crotchdropping'" makes no sense, FYI.

And yeah, used in a non-CF context, those terms fucking bother me.

So, wait, CFers are allowed to use "crotchdropping?"

And here I was working on the assumption that CFers should at least make some attempt at acting in a dignified and constructive manner, both on general classiness and so the entire childfree movement doesn't get swept together as crass, misanthropic child-haters. Silly, silly me.
