Graphic Designer Wank!
It's small, but it might get bigger.

Redeggmonitor posted a pretty mediocre cover for concrit in the graphicdesign community: http://www.livejournal.com/community/graphicdesign/289397.html

Being mediocre, it got ripped.

So Redeggmonitor comes back and posts again: http://www.livejournal.com/community/graphicdesign/289612.html

This piece is dismissed as being "David Carson-esque." And then someone comes along and posts hey asshole, that IS a david carson cover. nice try.

A bit of wankage ensues. Mostly from the original poster. Being a circle jerk of graphic designers, there is more attention to things like spelling, capitalization and grammar than in your everyday wank.

PS. First time post. :)

I blame e.e. cummings. For all of it, including Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Please, everyone knows that EVA was JK Rowlings's fault.

Clearly EVA is Picasso's fault.

I can't decide whether I'm relieved or disappointed by that.

Well, the lack of amusing bad spelling is made up for by an aubundance of pompousness.

I love all the bullshit about designing intuitively and not adhering to the rules. Right, because your art is so groundbreaking and original that it doesn't follow "backward" everyday thinking. Jesus.

Artists who refuse to learn/use technique bother the shit out of me. To me their attitude screams "I don't have to follow the rules because I am better than everyone else," or, "The history of art and all its rules are so PHILISTINE."

Ugh- totally. I so wish I could set my design professor on him. There's a REASON for the rules -so that people who aren't artists can see what you're trying to display!

Thanks! It's nice to know that about 5 hours of work are appreciated. ;-)

It's from Gigi D'Agostino's music video, "The Riddle". I want to do more of the same video.

Oh man, the merest mention of that crap is enough to make me break out in hives.

See also: It's only good if it's "completely original," that is to say, something they haven't seen before.

I like how the OP's response to every crit is "Well, it's *supposed* to be that way! It's intuitive! It's my STYYYYYYYLE!!1one!1"

...and then says "Thanks" to everyone who says they liked it.

Why even bother asking for concrit if all you want is praise?

And that is a pretty damn mediocre cover. I like the picture, I like the white space, but it doesn't tie *together* at all. There's a way to do an imbalanced composition so it looks like it's *meant* to be imbalanced, not like you fucked up. </ artist wank>

Gah! He's like every douchebag kid who doesn't understand why they get "Cs" I've ever had to endure a critique with.
