RIP Zeus
On the Dog-Lovers community, [info]jetblakkmane posts about her dog dying (post now deleted). Let me make this VERY CLEAR: the death of a nice dog like Zeus is a terrible thing. Nobody denies that. The problem is that Jetblakkmane dismissed obvious serious symptoms for hours and took/posted photos of the dog "snoozing."

Enter [info]tviokh, who (among others) coldly but politely points out that maybe she should have taken the dog to the vet. Just, yaknow. Jetblakkmane promptly throws a fit. She deletes posts, she puts up new posts calling everyone in the comm "judgmental cunts," she takes down THOSE posts, and she flounces off to her own journal to throw a private frothing fit -- no nonscreened riff-raff here...



    If ANYONE has ANY PROBLEMS with the decisions that were made last night regarding Zeus, the vet and everything else, PLEASE, PLEASE DO let me know. I'd just LOVE for any assholes WHO WEREN'T IN THE SITUATION to kindly let me know what a horrible, terrible person I am for "letting him die". I don't have to justify what I did to ANYONE, least of all you fucking freaks who don't even know me. Didn't your mothers tell you that if you don't have anything nice to say to someone, NOT TO SAY ANYTHING AT ALL? And </a></b></a>[info]tviokh, you can run around to all the communities you want say how *AWFUL* a person I am, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. ETA: I'm sorry, guys. I have no "agenda" -- I just saw something freaky on my friendsfriends and I thought you might boggle too, so I tried to write it up in an entertaining and easy-to-read format. I'm not acquainted with either side nor am I involved in any of the above communities. I just thought it was astounding that one side is flat-out lying to get sympathy and screaming about raping people's teeth down their throats and murdering their pets...in a pet-lovers' community! If that's not a wank, I have to ask that someone post a definition already, because I'm totally lost now. I'd be happy to delete this because it apparently sucks and it's already in some other community I've never heard of (so how could I have known?), but if I delete it then I'M looking wanky, and honestly, WTF.

Yeah, this wank is currently already sitting in [info]i_wank thanks to [info]ashenmote. [info]tviokh originally posted it in [info]otf_wank but deleted it after she realized the responses from the people over here weren't going to be quite the didactic love-in that she got from her own f-list and the stupidpetowners members (one imagines she took that very hard, since she didn't bother reposting to [info]i_wank. Course, she should have known better than to expect F_Wers to do a greek chorus of agreement.) Luckily, [info]ashenmote managed to save the post and replies.

I'm seeing wankiness on both sides here, but deleting that post without reposting it elsewhere kinda tips [info]tviokh's wank-quotient over the top. Especially since these posts seem to be blatant attempts to impress a certain conclusion on the JournalFen community. Which, you know, we're smart enough to decide for ourselves. (And, yeah, you sound like you're doing a bit of premeditated puffery yourself -- the "wank-o-meter" measures splooge too. And let me tell you, that's a helluva lot of splooge in those last two so-called "sane" links. And a bit of splooge in your own presentation of the wank, yah know?)

I don't know, I thouht Tviokh was kinda tactless (and wanky, once the post was baleeted), but I certainly could sympathize. I initially thought the post to which she replied was a troll, as it had that wide-eyed, OMG-what-happened-I-dont-understand quality in describing what seemed like a clear-cut situation that trolls often have (ie on sextips, when someone posts the five millionth "OMG he pulled out before he came could I really be preggers" panic). I might have been inclined to get snappy, too.

Just my take, though; obviously the situation played out much differently.

Actaully I belive she was told it was all her fault her dog died and a lot of well if you'd taken him to the vet he'd be alive, which is not the thing to say to a person after a pet has died.

Saying, in effect, "Well, clearly this was all your fault," to someone mourning the death of a pet is hugely tacky, and yes, I would say mean, even if it is true, and this case, I don't think we have enough evidence to conclude that. Pets get minor ailments the same way people do - one of my cats routinely eats things he shouldn't, is lethargic and grumpy for few hours, and then throws it all up and is fine. If I took him to the vet every time it happened, I'd be broke, Arthur would be miserable, and the vet would hate me.

If these were completely unusual symptoms for the dog, then yes, she should have at the very least called a vet (though, as has been pointed out elsewhere, it sounds like it was in the evening that they realized there was anything more than a minor problem, and most places don't have 24-hour pet emergency services). But whether or not she was in the wrong, I think [info]tviokh's response was tactless and unnecessarily cruel.

The picture thing I can see though. My cat had something similar (it wasn't heat-related though) and we thought he was just really tired. It wasn't until we saw him dragging himself up the stairs that we knew something was wrong, and by that time it was almost too late. (he managed to recover, btw, but if we hadn't seen that--and it was only by fluke that we did--we wouldn't have known anything was wrong)

Just pointing out that your post as it originally read (yes, big penalty for modifying your post after people responded to it) sounded a little one-sided in that you seemed to be overstating the wankiness of one side and minimizing it on the other.
