The Beauty of the Hive Vagina in Action...
I got my BA from an all-female institution. I kept on it because it was tiny and the Romance language department was kickass.

However, as of Fall 2005, Wells College will be going coed.

However, this is not going without a shitfit from about half of the current student population...a protest website has been launched to "save our sisterhood", and a sit-in has been planned that will encompass @200 current students plus some alumnae.

Forgive me if this eally isn't wanky...but I guess you'd have to be there. Or something.

When I was in high school in the Bay Area, I remember there being MAJOR wank when Mills College was debating going coed. (They eventually decided against it.)

Speaking as an alum of a womens' college, I don't contribute dick, so I don't think I've earned much of a say, but I suspect those who have would similarly shit a brick if there were talk of fraternizing with the enemy men.

Well, no, I don't imagine that an alum of a womens' college would be contributing much dick...

If it were a men's college, people would be saying, "about bloody time". Hooray for double standards!

Hey, if men want to have their own colleges, I say go for it. Trouble is, the guys who actually go to those colleges keep wanting them to go coed. Something about liking to have women around. Funny, that.

Heh. As someone who was in the second year of women at Notre Dame, I can definitely say that not all the guys wanted to have women around. There were quite a few who thought that having them nearby (at St. Mary's College) was quite close enough.

Were those guys in the majority, or were most of them like, "Chauvinist, please?"

Well, either that or "It's those damn feminists and their politically correctness again!".

Private all-male institutions still exist (Wabash, Morehouse and Hampden-Sydney) and are hardly being forced to go co-ed.

Wow, the anti-administration wanking makes me feel better about my own alma mater's administration. Currently the entire school is divided between horror that the college is actually negotiating rather than rolling over to the unions and anger that there are football players in the dining hall.

Oh man, I go to an all-female college and I couldn't even imagine the shit we would go through if we went co-ed.

Not that there's even a remote chance that it'll happen.

I imagine it would be easy to do real-life trolling in a situation like that. Put up a bunch of fliers saying that the administration is secretly in negations to turn the college co-ed, get all the rabid fangirlswymyn to protest, the administration denies it, and the students say "Well of course you'd say that, you're the messiah doing it in secret!!"

Heh, this reminds me how my college, the University of Maine at Farmington was going to change its name to Liberal Arts College of Central Maine. People had a conipshit! Yeah, the new name sounded ridiculous and generic. Finally, the name didn't pass because we aren't a college but a University.

Still...Farmington University would been a fun name. FU!!! FU! Best sports chant ever!

BTW, I do see the wank. Double standards are amusing :P

I didn't have much of an opinion until I read the first response. Then I nearly had coffee-flavoured milk come out my nose.

If a woman doesn't have the guts to study science and maths if there might be men around, she certainly doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to maintain a career in the field. There are still a lot of men working in those areas and if you can't manage having a male lab partner as an undergraduate then you're going to be shit out of luck when it comes to having a male boss and working with and competing with men.

In fact, the only career I can imagine for women with qualifications in those fields who can't work alongside men comfortably is teaching in all-female schools. Hmm...
