bloggers, newspapers, and THA GUVMENT
A wank that involves bloggers, newspapers, and...THE GOVERNMENT! who knew!

Prominent Malaysian blogger Jeff Ooi posts something about Islam Hadhari and money politics on his blog, comparing them to oil and water.

Someone named "Anwar" comments, comparing them to...well, bodily waste. Jeff Ooi tells him that his comment was unwarranted and bans him from the blog.

A couple of major dailies in Malaysia catch the comment and print front-page articles, claiming that Jeff Ooi has insulted Islam by allowing the comment to pass, that he is causing national instability, and that his website should be shut down. The Government gets on Jeff's case too, while the leader of the Opposition is on Jeff's side.

...all missing the point that it wasn't even JEFF that made the comment in the first place.

Jeff and Malaysian bloggers go WTF.

There's even a conspiracy theory. o_O

It's, like, one massive circle jerk really tight-knit community. Everyone's hands is in or on someone else's genitalia knows everyone else.

That's not just it, though. The fact that the whole brouhaha caused all the BNBs to start jacking each other off.

It's a somewhat regular, annual thing; last time this happened everyone worked themselves up into a state of moral frenzy was when Malaysiakini got shut down by the government because of something similar (some idiot compared UMNO Youth to the KKK, which isn't surprising really).

Anyway. Point is that the government, as usual, is making a mountain out of a molehill. And the bloggers, seeing this, start making their own mountains out of molehills. If only everyone would treat the Malaysian government the way it deserves to be treated…

…like a parent suffering from a rather severe case of Tourette's syndrome. It is. Or like Sean Penn in that movie where he played the role of an autistic parent.

Well, they did confer 80-plus titles to a bunch of people. It's gotten to the point where you could throw a brick and hit someone with a title three times out of five.
