Eminem + politics + music elitism!

A post by datura in the liberal LJ community links to the new Eminem video that's been making the rounds of the internet in the past few days. The video makes a pretty emphatic anti-Bush statement.

People don't like Eminem. Wank ensues.

We've got Marilyn Manson debate, "pop music sux0rz!!1!", and yakkette all over the place (i'm pretty sure she popped up in a bunch of feminist wanks a while back). Fun times!

Less than a week till doomsday Election Day!

Find "OMG, YOU ARE SO NOT VOTING FOR KERRY!" funny. Don't diss the idiot voting population, they'll sue you for violating their First Amendment rights.

Plus, if you exclude idiots from voting for Kerry, then he's pretty much lost the election already. By a landslide. Just saying.

The funny part is, that works the other way around too. I'd venture to say it applies to any candidate, any election.

Oh what I mean by "in harm's way" above - is women being put into situations where they *directly * engage men in physical combat. There are some who could do it, but - most would be at a disadvantage. I also just hate the idea of women being hurt like that by male people- again, call me old-fashioned...

Yeah, cos it's not like the people who suffer the most in war (civillian women and children) are disadvantaged or anything.

So in what way does this person think it IS okay for male people to hurt women?

Also, Eminem's song about killing his ex is not misogynistic, it's about ex-hate. During my divorce in 1999 I listened to it constantly. I am a woman, my ex was male, but it was nice to hear from someone who got it.

I've seen the video...frankly, I wasn't expecting something so serious from Em. He's usually the Trey Parker/Matt Stone of rap, IMHO. I'm proud of him for doing something to mobilize young men in the 18-25 age bracket to vote Kerry.

They can't REALLY believe Eminem is REALLY homophobic...DUDE, he was just saying those things to piss you off! I'm sorry, but most people on the faaar left have ZERO sense of humor. I'm gay and I listen to his music, probably because I understand it's satire.

I'm sick of Yakkette already, honestly. She rubs me as elitist and overly PC.

Eminem is hit and miss with me. About half his stuff is total shit made only to shock people, and the other half is good.

This video? It's a hit. He managed to capture the rage and sheer energy that so many people feel. And rather than advocate violence, the song tells people to go out and change it through the electorial process. Additionally, the entire song was filled with powerful lyrics and imagry. I'm a sucker for powerful lyrics and imagry.

I've found that I can't judge any one song of Eminem by his record. Oh, and he's gets points; I think this is the first song he's made that isn't about him.

And holy shit, that video. I can't stand rap (except for some of the underground political stuff that I find fascinating) but that video literally had me in tears from the sheer impact.
