I'm all for women's equal rights, especially seeing as I have a bad tendancy to idolize anything with a vagina and a decent voice, but people like that seem to forget the equal part of equal rights.

She seems like the sort that claimed she wanted all men chained up for only breeding purposes in HS.

Word (for lack of a better word). The governor of my state signed an Equal Pay Illinois law but I don't know when it goes into effect or if people are going to go around it.

I've never been to the Ms. boards but I got called a "traitor to my gender" one time in a politics chat because I said that I don't consider myself a feminist (I guess I'm more of a personist? equalist? humanist?)

Why I think being called a "traitor to [your] gender" is a bit harsh, I must point out that feminism is more than just activism. Feminism, simply put, is the belief that women and men should be equal in the eyes of law and society. Thus, while you may not call yourself a feminist, you do seem to identify yourself with feminist principles and, some would say, thus, a feminist.

I'm usually not one big with labels, but I call myself one in hopes of reclaiming the word from those who make it seem more fanatical than it is (Catharine MacKinnon, Andrea Dworkin, the Ms. boards crowd) as well as those who vilify so-called "uppity women" at every chance they get (Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, etc.)

So that's my two cents on the "feminist or not a feminist?" debate.

And Cortese could likely get her point across with less screaming, less bludgeoning and about 75% less word count, without that fifty gallon drum of Holier Than Thou Water nad people might actually stop and listen. Though what fun would there be in it for her if she did present things in a calmer, less shrill manner that doesn't turn potential listeners away (or make them want to snap her neck or point and laugh at her)?

I'm not opposed to feminism as a rule (though I don't consider a feminist) but it's people like her who twist the original ideal into an excuse to cry oppression and play "men are evil so I'll be evil right back.

So the point is "All men are pigs! No exceptions EVER!!!", basically. Man, it must be hard to be omniscient. And so brilliantly original.

As for turning traitor to gender, I don't believe I signed up for some kind of United Wymynz Team to begin with. I thought I was just born with two X chromosomes. Somebody didn't read me the fine print about all having to think alike.

So, so many things about this thread piss me off that I'd probably piss somebody off just by listing them. So instead I'll just bash my head against this wall a couple of times and walk away glad that I don't know any of these people.

Though what's saddest is that I kindasorta agree with part of the original post. In wanky moments I've bitched (briefly) at people who call anything with male eyecandy "yaoi," when to me it's just...eyecandy, fun for people of all genders! I don't have a political agenda; I just don't compartmentalize things the same way, I guess.

Oh, anyway. I'll watch the people moan and bitch and cuss out teh eval eval men!!11 some more. *makes popcorn*
