"It's just a breast. It's not going to jump up and bite you."
Yes, we've got breastfeeding wank.

Over at [info]customers_suck, [info]rita posts some stories about sucky customers, including one about a woman who breastfed in public and apparently drew lots of attention to the fact that OMGbreastfeeding!

And all is well and good...at least until [info]harmonyfb shows up and spooges all over everything. She proceeds to reply to just about every comment in favor of [info]rita's complaint, with such thrilling quotes as:

I don't feed my infants based on whether other people will get offended. If they do, it's too damn bad.

::waves that away:: Sorry, their problem, not mine or my baby's.

It's just a breast, for goodness' sake. It's not going to jump up and bite you. Feh to your "discreet" request.

...And then people spooge back, because OMG, breastfeeding activist! Breastfeeding activist in the dungeon comments! And they think she's a rude bitch, besides.

Small wank, but amusing nonetheless.

What amuses me is that she doesn't even have the community on her friends list. It's like she's out there hunting for anyone saying bad things about breastfeeding so she can jump on them. *snerk*

~shrug~ No comment on the wankiness of the thread, but I've never understood why someone not being in a comm but participating there is worthy of comment. She probably reads it every now and then but doesn't want her fpage entirely cluttered by people whining about their customers, and this time something caught her eye and she wanted to respond. So... what?

I don't see what the big deal is. Every breastfeeding I've ever seen, the lifting of the shirt and bra followed by the baby's suckling on the nipple is so quick you don't see much of anything at all. Once the baby's attached there's nothing whatsoever to see.

Then there's this:
There's a reason that most of the civilized world finds blatant breadfeeding repulsive - because it is.

The fuck?

Have you never heard of the foundation pillars of the civilized world?

We honor values like freedom, democracy, human rights, equality and justice and consequentially these values account for our repugnance against inhuman procedures like capital punishment, censorship, blatant breastfeeding or torture.

Civilised people use formula and realise that breasts should only be exposed on the internet, for wanking purposes. Only savages subject babies to drinking human milk, because they don't have the internet.

(I don't have the JF <> tags down, so bare with just text)

As a commenter, smallwickedlady on LJ, I must point out that a lot of us do NOT mind it if a mother warns us. _rita's customer just whips the breast out, and THAT stuns/bothers us. Come on... give us a little "I'm going to breastfeed." first, so we won't be O.o

I stress again, I don't mind breastfeeding, just the sudden whip out.

2004-11-17 12:41 am UTC (link)
Yeah, but as I said above, nothing is actually "whipped out", at least with the breastfeeders I've seen, cloth goes up and baby goes *suck* in such short order that there's nothing to go o.0 or even :\ and certainly not ;_; about.
Sorry, I just don't see this as something that warrants a "warning". I have no kids myself, it's not like I'm one of "them", I just honestly don't see what the problem is here. How much would _rita have been ranting if, instead of feeding Junior, the woman just let Junior squawk and fuss and get hungry and start screaming? Personally I'd prefer a millisecond-long flash of flesh over a screaming infant any old day of the week.

Anyone who would just whip out their boob and allow their child to start sucking on it, just casually in the middle of a discussion, disturbs me. I don't like seeing breastfeeding in public at all, but I'm a big girl and can deal with just minding my own business - but I agree with the OP that when women do it so intrusively that it can be a huge "OMGWTF" moment.

EX:

I worked a grocery store. The woman I was ringing up had an infant. It wasn't crying. It wasn't fussing. It wasn't doing anything but sitting there looking blank and baby-like. Out of NOWHERE she unbuckled her overalls, whipper her boob out of her tank top, and shoved it in the baby's face until it started feeding. WTF? OK, now, I understand that sometimes your baby simply needs to eat and some people have schedules and whatnot, but could she have not waited until she got in the car? MAYBE? PLEASE? Did she have to do that right infront of me before she'd even paid? AUUGHH! I like the option to be able to look AWAY when people do that - seeing people do that seriously makes me squeamish and unsettled, and I realize I'm weird about it - but RIGHT THERE INFRONT OF MY FACE in a CROWDED STORE. WHY? WWWWWWWHHHHHHYYYY?

[/wank]

... Yes. Anyway. Breastfeeding activists worry me. I think they all need hobbies.

I dunno, I think I agree with [info]tiki on this one. I don't understand what's so offensive about somebody breastfeeding without notice. It seems like a lot of people are saying it's gross/weird etc. It just keeps making me think of two gay guys kissing in public. Lots of people find it gross/unsettling. How many homophobes have you heard say, "it's fine, just don't do it in front of me." I mean, it's a breast. Harmonyfb is being spazzy, but I think a lot of people are swinging the other way with the "I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT!!"

Oy. Breastfeeding wank. I think both sides are being incredibly wanky here, as is usually the case. Personally, it's not something I want to see (babies in any situation hold absolutely no appeal for me), and I think it's polite to give fair warning to those who happen to be close by, but eh, it's her breast and her baby. If it'll keep the kid quiet and the mother's comfortable with it, then who am I to tell her not to?

Oh noes, watch out THOSE DAMN BREAST-FEEDING HIPPIES WILL RUIN IT FOR ALL OF US! With their...nipples...and, uh...milk. And other things that are somehow inherently bad, but not really.

Harmony was being wanky, but wanky in the face of adversity! I admire her spunk. And at least she wasn't saying repugnant things like

"People are respecting your right to overpopulate the world with all of your children, and you could show the same respect and keep your tits out of people's faces."

...aw fuck, it's one of those child_free assholes who believes that "breeders" are evil. These people really need a little joy and happiness in their lives to replace that bitter pill they're constantly taking.

*headdesk*

Time to get out the 'Stop being on my side' icon. I breastfed all my kids. I started up a breast feeding support group at my local health centre. I advocate the benefits of breast feeding whenever the topic comes up.

However, I want to smash all those militant breast feeders in the head with a rock.

Is it really so hard to wear a baggy tee-shirt if you're going to be out of the house long enough for your spawn to require a feed? I've fed my kids without anyone noticing thanks to oversized shirts. And I had really enorous tits.

Yes, it's natural and you shouldn't be ashamed of doing it, but waving your boob in someone's face and demanding that they not be shocked is just unrealistic. People aren't going to magically stop being embarrassed about nudity just because you tell them to. Have a bit of damned consideration for the prudes.

Aaaand, I've started wanking myself. Oh well.

People still get upset about breastfeeding? Seriously?

Sing it with me

"Breastfeeding baby in the park
You're gonna have to do it after dark
Cuz there are parts of you and me
That other people don't wanna see
Oh no you can't breastfeed your baby in the park"
c. Sisters Unlimited 198?

I'd like to thank my mother for the CND marches, the clown trousers, and the fact that I still know the chorus to the pro-breastfeeding song that at learned at the knee of her VW.

You know, despite living in the Hippie Capital of North America, despite having lived here during the Great Topless Equal Rights Debate of 2002, despite also being the oldest of seven breastfed children, I can't recall a single instance in my entire life where a tit managed to burn my retinas out before I could look away.

Now, some people's faces, on the other hand...
