You know, while I can understand the frustration and anger of an artist who has had an image stolen, this is just... *facepalm* That Christ on a pogo stick image has been around for years and is one she used to give away, by her own admission. It's been on icons for who knows how long. Why is she saying something about it now? No one really wants someone else's dot com address on their icon, and I'm sure she must realize that. Why not ask people to credit with the dot com in the keywords and let it gooooo? (LJ abuse reports for copyright violation? Hehe, good luck.)

I have a child to support, you know.

Sheesh, if you want to place an ad to drum up business, put the damned dot com all over your own icons - everyone will know where to go for your art and no one will ever "steal" another 100x100 pixel magnum opus from you again.

I stopped reading soon after I choked laughing at the supporter spouting the different levels of copyright argument. Props to [info]ceejayoz for the dose of common sense.

I wish Opal well, and I hope she has better luck in the future deterring thieves. I would suggest watermarked and branded images at her site if she's so worried about her art being stolen. Again, I sympathise, but a hissy fit at this late date over an icon is a bit silly.

Actually, LJ Abuse did something about a copyright violation issue for me. Given, it was a different matter - an icon had been made from one of my drawings for the purpose of harrassing the person in the drawing. But still.

Yeesh, what a drag. I'm glad you got a positive response. I've never dealt with LJ abuse and most of the reports I've heard about it have been of the frustrated variety. Given that people may be louder about frustration rather than satisfaction, I think I've probably formed an unfair opinion.

And that has what to do with what?

I hate when people try to pimp their kids out for pity.

I mean if someone making LJ icons out of your work is going to have such a negative affect on your business that you won't be able to feed and clothe your kid, well I think it's time to start looking for another line of work.

I have never understood icon wank. Why does such a tiny field of pixels inspire such agony? "Waaaah! They stole my icon!" "Waaaah! They didn't credit me!" "Waaaah! I'm losing money!" "Waaaah! They're stealing a part of my soul!"

Jesus Louweezus. IT'S A FUCKING ICON. Get over your damn tortured artist self.

I also find it completely, hilariously ridiculous that the OP expects people to actually use that icon with her URL plastered all over it. Because, you know, that's not tasteless or ugly or anything. Plus, I do all my shopping via LJ icon.

Yeah, especially when most icons use someone else copyrighted material. I mean, if it's an image you photographed/drew, or it's entirely text you wrote, or something, I could understand. But if you take a screen-cap from some anime, then slap on a line worth of lyrics from some pop-star...

Yeah. Generally, I encourage others to steal my icons. It's a compliment to my l33t icon-making skills. Now if someone was, say, copying and pasting one of my stories and then putting their name on it... I would have to bring down the smack.

But otherwise, it's all good.

I heard about a professional (or a wannabe pro) artist who did that. Only problem is his plagiarized, copied portfolio full of pilfered pieces was presented in a job interview to the artist he'd pilfered it from. Not an auspicious debut. ;)
