Oh deary me.
So I tried to log onto #Infidelchat IRC this morning, found out I was banned for some reason, and started cruising around the usual hangouts for some answers.
It all started when a fellow named CM came to the channel who is, apparently, a Net Admin/Saff member of IRChat.
He's generally okay until God_Fearing_Atheist makes a joking comment about "Jew Bankers". (The chatlog is here.)

CM lost it - okay, that's bad. Shouldn't have happened.
But that's exactly the point - it shouldn't have happened. The community shouldn't be divided, destroyed, or made into a warzone. That's WHY it shouldn't have happened.
Flouncing off in a (completely justified) snit will just cause more damage, will weaken the channel, and will destroy the very thing we all want to protect.
CM has apologised on-channel, I'm pretty sure the "incident" isn't going to happen again - so now more than ever, it needs your support and active presence. Yes, it sucks. But we just have to suck it up for the sake of the place we love so much. It's not like you're condoning continued oppression.
CM: perhaps an anti-inflammatory reflection on the factors involved in the incident would help put out some fires - especially if combined with some assurance that cooler heads will be the order of the day in future. (some of the pricklier types might need promises of sexual favours, but you made the bed...

I agree. The script that began the entire situation was a joke. (a joke with a point I suppose, expressing my opinion of that phrase and the racist attitudes which accompany it) It was similar to placing a whoopee cushion on a chair and asking someone to sit down.(without the attached opinion) Imho after reviewing the log most of the people in the room overreacted to it and attacked me, unwilling to give me the opportunity to explain or apologize for inadvertently offending anyone. My response was to fight back by (temp) banning jeremy from the network which rather than putting an end to it inflamed the situation. Despite my desire to keep the ban in place I removed it hoping people would just drop it.
Instead I sat there for 10 minutes while I was continuously flamed and even being accused of voting for bush.(that was below the belt) I was accused at one point of baiting Jeremy into calling me a dimwit, well at this point everyone was aware of the fact that I was Netadmin and was very clearly baiting me with comments like "So I don't mind being banned, but not because some silly bastard feels his penis it too small." I asked Stopper in pm to put an end to it or I would remove the room from the network, she did nothing and the abuse continued. I don't expect anyone to kiss my ass but I will not sit in a room on my network and tolerate excessive continuous abuse nor will I be forced to leave because of it. As I said I don't expect anyone to kiss my ass but on the other hand I won't kiss anyone else's either. I apologized for the script which offended people and have explained repeatedly it was meant as a joke I hope people can accept that and move on
