Two for the price of one!
Over on mock_the_stupid, there's a little wank going on about...condoms. Kinda.

This was funny when I saw it months ago, but it's not funny anymore

And another wank, same comm, about...states?

OMG, there's 52/51 states! I'm just the only one who knows it!

Hah! The # of states one is priceless. Priceless.

Love that s/he is using a snarky icon about ignorance while being totally clueless.

The US needs a FAQ.

1. How many states are there?
50. 51, if you use your imagination.

2. Does the US have the death penalty?
Yes, but we prefer to call it "baleeting."

Oh my fucking god, that argument over the number of states is hilarious. Even more hilarious is the icon "spooke" keeps using when displaying an ignorance that is nothing short of aberrant. And just when I thought I couldn't be more amused, I looked at the bottom right corner of the link spooke provides and see an ad for "online degrees."

This is so beautiful, I hope somebody preserves it for posterity and posts a screencap of it whenever someone comes to F_W with the righteous purpose of making an idiot of hirself. It's just that appropriate.

You know, every so often, a wank comes along (the bookyoucrew wank was one, as is almost any tinhat one) where you feel a little poorer for not being able to go over there and mock directly. You sit at your computer and curse the ones who made no-trolling rules and wish they would burn in hell just so they could feel just the tiniest fraction of the suffering you're enduring by not being allowed to troll the wankers.

Yayz, my home is caught up in wank! (Wooh, Wooh! Puerto Rico!) I wish we'd make up our mind already and just become a state, I'm tired of being classified as a US citizen but not have basic rights while I'm here.

That, and learning Spanish, Puerto Rican, and US Federal Laws is such a pain in the butt.

Did something happen to Puerto Rico and Guam while I wasn't looking?

Or, hey, maybe it was American Samoa. Or the US Virgins.

Now I'm just trying to figure out what they thought the other two states were.

I'm reminded of the "what's that place sitting on top of Wisconsin?" question from someone from the US and from close proximity of That Place Sitting On Top of Wisconsin. I told her it was Da Yooper State.

/If you want to learn about American geography, move to another country. It'll help greatly./

So two of the Canadians on my friend's list who didn't know where Chicago (or Lake Michigan) is don't count. I know more about their country's politics and geography than they know about mine.

Could it be that politics and geography is boring, and I can understand why they don't give a shit? Nah. I get to feel superior.

Odd.

So I want to know who is running around saying there are 52 states? Because I grew up with that knowledge too and got it readjusted in University when I had to do an art history paper on the Three Flags by Jasper Johns.

What these people fail to realize is that Montana is not actually a state.

Ever been there? Or met anyone from Montana?

My point exactly. I have similar suspicions about Vermont.

I recently had a discussion with a friend, who kept insisting there were 52 states. He insisted it for so long that I started to believe it. (I'm Canadian, so it's not like it was my OWN country I was confused about..but it was still fairly silly.) I wonder why the '52' states thing is so common. Maybe because there are 52 cards in a deck so they get it confused..?

Is it just me or is amenaspointyhat trying to jerk another wank from the post?

For spooke, it's like he's blundering through the woods, hitting every damn branch that comes his way and he hasn't the sense to dodge them.

I'm fully aware that DC != Washington state. Exactly what is your point? That there are 50 states not counting DC?

Can't . . . understand funny . . . words. *brain deflates*

I particularly liked spooke's "typical American" title as a response to one of the initial (and relatively polite) corrections. The irony is mind-boggling.

And the "49 states" claimant at the top of the thread was entertaining, too. Heee!

I love how Spooke went from saying "we" have 51 states and "we've gained another territory" to "your" ambassador and "I never believed your president was truly representative of you all before now." blah blah blah repeat-o-cakes.

Not to mention titling a thread "typical American, sadly".

Riiiiight.

So would this be a "stop being from my country, you're making my country look stupid" sort of thing?
