But according to her Hollyness, fetusii are viable at 20 weeks! Never mind that it's actually 25 weeks, and even then they'll probably never leave the ventilator, let along the hospital... it's God's pwecious gift of (a few painful weeks of orphaned and severely handicapped) life!

I'm only anon because this is a story that, while a few of you probably know, I'm not certain the person in question would want told incredibly openly, and it's not my story to tell, anyway. Not completely.

Anyway. When I was 6 years old, my mother got pregnant for the fourth time (her previous three had been a miscarriage and two alive and kicking babies). She was sick at the time, recently diagnosed with one the major things that turn her health into a trainwreck. The doctors told her she could not safely continue the pregnancy, so she aborted.

My mother is SUPREMELY pro-choice. But she never even had amniocentesis with my brother and I, despite being in her mid-to-late 30's. She never wanted PERFECT children, she just wanted HER children. She and my father would do what they could from there. She still aborted.

And it always pisses me off to NO end that, apparently, there are people out there who seem to believe that the world would be better off if my father had been raising two at-least-mildly handicapped children on his own to my mother getting that abortion.

So, to the Hollys of the world, fuck you. Just fuck you. If you'd rather have a child grow up without a mother or a man be a widower than have someone have an OMG ABORTION!!!1! stop calling yourself pro-life RIGHT NOW. Because you're not. You're not even pro-fetus. You are the definition of anti-life, because you'd rather have a death in a family than a life. And I'm as pro-choice, or more, than my mother, and I can accept sane pro-lifers. But never, ever, EVER can I respect or accept someone like Holly. ESPECIALLY someone who would walk up to someone who just had a very traumatic event, someone in mourning, and, basically, tell them that they are a murderer and should have died instead.

You are not pro-life. I would question whether or not you are human. I think we need another category for you.

Slightly different story from me. I was the problem pregnancy. She lived, but it was very, very touch and go. They told her in no uncertain terms - No more kids. Period. Next time, you WON'T make it. Dad went and had a vasectomy before she was out of the hospital.

This always makes me think two things.

1) If the vasectomy hadn't "taken", and she had become pregnant again? I'm going to fucking hope and pray Mom would have had that abortion.

2) Those people who go on about, What If YOUR Mom Had Aborted YOU? Well. Had they diagnosed some of the problems earlier on, they might have told my mom to. So:

A: if you believe in the existence of a soul or inner spirit or whatever, then essential-Me would have found another home, and certainly wouldn't have been upset that a young woman decided that her life was important than mine, for the sake of her already-alive toddler and husband.

(Those people who say, I'D DIE FOR MY KID! - What about the ones you already have, that are going to grow up without a mother?)

B: If you don't, then - I WOULDN'T EXIST TO BE UPSET ABOUT IT ANYWAY.

Can someone please explain to Holly, using very small words and visual aids where necessary, that this was not an either-or scenario, Mom's life OR the baby's?!

Eclampsia doesn't work that way, sorry. It was: In a day or so, you'll be dead. Does Holly miss the part where the pregnant woman dying from organ failure pretty much fucks the fetus over, too?

Sacrificing her life wouldn't have kept the kid alive. Sorry. The options here weren't You Or Your Baby! The options were, Your kid can live, painfully, for a short short time, or not. But pick now before we lose you too.

Motherfucker, I need to put a boot straight up Holly's ass.

I know people like this in real life (one of whom, oddly enough, shares the same name... deargodno), and there is *nothing* you can say to make them even consider anything other than what they've been brainwashed into believing.

"Oh, silly Mae, women never die during childbirth nowadays! No woman's life is ever in danger during pregnancy or childbirth, and even if they were, the babies are always more important. The mothers have had their chance to live." You know, nevermind that sometimes it's one or both.

Oh fucking god...that SO pisses me off.

I was in a very similar situation with my first pregnancy. It was either deliver the baby NOW or i die from eclampsia and secere HELLP syndrome. And so would the baby most likely.

I was lucky in the respect that my daughter was 29 weeks and therefore viable with a good chance of making it. However, even if this woman had chosen NOT to deliver, what would have been the point? You can not survive eclampsia for the month or so she would have had to bake those twins to make them even have a chance of viability. They all would have died instead of just the twins. No one was coming out of that one alive.

You survived, but your baby didnt...how are you to say that you are more important than the baby?

*mouth hangs open with incredious disbelief* How can she say...?! Look, 100 years ago the fatality rate for babies was 16.5 per 100. A woman can have more babies and the babies are not always garenteed to live! I mean it would be nice if they did but... really. My God. Is it because they were male babies??

Maybe it's just me and maybe I'm just cold hearted and/or too pro-choice, but I really do believe that weighing between a baby that may not live anyway, and a mother that may not live, I'd choose the mother. And I think the mother should have that option. Otherwise basically all she is is a baby making machine and by suggesting she die for the baby indicates that's all people like Holly consider her good for. -_-;
