While surfing in other posts in the IMDB Alexander forum, my friend Kali Cephirot found out that info-2774 seems to be somewhat upset by people thinking that Alexander the Great was gay.

Some snippets of his holly anger (which make me think of founding an NGO for the Welfare of Exclamation Marks):

No one is denying that there were homosexuals or bisexuals in any society. That has existed everywhere. But when you people make a personal attack on a hero and almost demi-god , meaning Alexander, then you better have evidence to back up these stupid comments. By saying " oh, it is known, or Oliver stone's movie said so, or my teacher told me" does not make it a fact! You people are so brainwashed with this new propaganda garbage by believing anything that is fed to you.

You people are nothing more than Fanatic homosexuals who want to believe (in your fantasy world) that Alexander was Bisexaul or gay! With evidence like " because my teacher said so, Or "it is known" or , "it was common" Or "this new author said so" What facts you give me! Congradulations!!!!!!

Find me ONE ancient source (meaning ancient authors- Diodorus, Arrian, or Plutarch)that says Alexander slept with men? Stop with these stupid comments ("It is known , or my teacher told me" .....) and find me a source (which must be translated from ancient Greek) But we ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL know that is not possible because it does NOT exist! Until I am proven wrong (and I know I will not!) all of you homosexual fanatics can shut your mouths-Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why, exactly, do people in this day and age consider a conqueror, someone who invaded and took over the lands of others, to be a hero? If a modern day Alexander tried doing the same thing in this day and age, the whole world would be condemning him.

I even went and posted this question here on IMDB. I wonder if this, too, will lead to a wank.

He's an ancient greek and that makes him cool? I seriously don't know. It's the same as Aquilles, me thinks. Since they're ancient enough, what they did is considered cool.

Damn history for being so ambiguously gay!

I don't understand why people even bothers with discussions on Ancient Greek and homosexuality. Everybody who has studied a bit of classics knows that a bit of homosexuality was considered a normal part of every boy education (like public school in the Uk). These boys then grow up, got married had children, had sex with their wives only for reproductive means, and had fun either with heterae (prostitutes) or with young boys.
Yes, Alexander did come from the relatively wild Macedonia, but was schooled by Aristoteles who did come from Socrates'school, who gave us that hymn to homosexuality as educational tool that is the Symposium. (and yes, I know that Plato wrote the Symposium, but is supposed to be an exposition of Socrates'ideas.)
And as for the point on why make a conqueror an hero for today's generation, at least this warmongering head of state with big daddy issues was well educated, had an idea of where and what the countries he was fighting were and showed respect for their traditions. The order he created lasted for centuries. Can we say the same for the current warmongering head of state with big daddy issues?

So he gets in these fits of rage about the implication that his hero must be one of those homosexual fanatics because that shouldn't even be suggested. Mmmh, denialicious.

God this is why I hate uneducated people. It's not about what you or I believe. I am a historian, I have studied this for years, meaning I know what the hell I'm talking about. It isn't about prejudice sport, it isn't about 'belief.' It's about 'history.'

Yeah, cos Historical sources have never ever been biased, ever! And I know cos I've been studying history since before you were BORN! And every single word that was ever written down by those dead Greek dudes was TRUE!

The facts are historians get to argue over this, not people who are not educated on the history. Thus you don't get to expect that your belief means anything. Nor do you get to claim I am prejucided. I am only prejudiced against stupid people who don't know when they haven't a right to argue.

*nods* It says right here in the intarweb constitution: "Only pretentious asshats get to have opinions. Also, don't like it, don't read it."

So, why is IMDB such an everlasting cauldron of splooge? Just go to F911 or Passion of the Christ and I'd be you'd find ten posts equally wanky to this. Or go to Jodie Foster's forum (JODIE ISN'T A LESBIAN!!!! LOL) or Oliver Stone's (HEY OLIVER ALEXANDER SUCKED LOL) or Wes Anderson's (YOUR OFFBEAT BRAND OF HUMOR SUCKS LOL) ( or Sofia Coppola's... (HOW DARE THIS BITCH GO UP AGAINST LORD OF THE RINGS? ::FOAM:: LOL)

Granted, I just made those posts up, but I bet you they're there.

And a quick check on Sofia's forum reveals a post called "She is Fake".

I weep.

I wish people would stop posting links to the IMDB. Or I wish I had more willpower. I follow the links, I read the posts, and the sheer overwhemling stupidity of the place just saps my will to live.

And then I end up too depressed to write about popstars wearing women's underwear and fucking each other, and that's just wrong.

Um, info-2774? Sweetie? Please shut up. You're making those of us who have actually read the classics look stupid.

You're right, though, about Alexander not being gay. Why? Because sexual orientation - or at least any importance being placed on it - didn't exist back then. Ever read Plato? The Illiad? (And sweetie, if you try to tell me that Achilles and Patroclus were just really, really good friends - who slept in the same tent, shared everything including a bed, spent all their time together, and oh yes, let's not forget that Achilles (you know, the greatest warrior in the world at the time, not exactly prone to random fits of weeping?) was absolutely incapacitated by Patroclus' death - I will laugh at you. Loudly.) Male/male relationships were considered perfectly normal back then. Deal with it.

God-fucking-dammit, I hate pretentious pseudo-classicists.

I have a lj page; I have been meaning for a LONG time to post the response my classics-major SO sent me when I sent him a link to the news that the lawyers were suing Stone.

It wasn't an email, it was an entire dissertation on ancient Greek gender politics.

Oh, yeah, the basic point was that same sex encounters were practically encouraged back then.
