Just a small serial killer wank
Deadly is a movie based on real life Canadian serial killers Paul Bernardo and his wife Karla Homolka who tortured, raped and murdered three girls a decade ago.

Over on the IMDb boards boards, the mood is one of anger and disapointment.

Then good ol' stupidity rears it's head and they're off, yelling at people to read the book and worring about what Americans will think of Canadians if they discover the truth.

Oh, so now we're expected to think about non-American-types, are we?

Damn, people. Make up your minds!

No worries, fellow Canadians, we will never catch up to the Americans in terms of violence, I promise. We really suck on the whole murder thing. We should be proud to be able to prove we can be psyco killers too. Sometimes. We try.

I'm sorry! I just couldn't meet my baby-eating quota for this month... But I resolve to work harder in the new year!

I did kick an elderly gentleman into the street though.

I have no particular thoughts on the making of the movie, but LAURA PREPON is playing Karla Homolka? That just seems really strange to me.

Sadly, that was my first though too. Though, the Mischa Collins guys does eerily resemble Bernardo, from the headshot on there at least. Creepy.

Actually, visually, she's perfect. Ignore the sheer terriblyness of the site and take a glace of the stills. With the dye job and 90's cut, she fits the bill pretty well.

I've never been able to get over the fact that there was a bestselling book about that case written by a guy called Robert Pron.

Eh. I don't know what they are getting so bent about. All they have to do is check out their own history.

Canadians don't have anything to say. We share more than a few Serial murderers on the northern left coast. Lots of them cross the border in the Northwest quite freely. We've crossed Serial Killers streams from our shared history of gold mining towns right up to the recent events of the pig farmer, Pickton that was recently arrested in British Columbia.

Besides, I'm not quite sure what the Canadians are worried about with Ken and Barbie. Americans already know about them. They were a poorly kept secret. The only reason anyone got excited over them was because they were pretty and middle class and the victims they chose were pretty and middle class.

If anyone is interested to see what repression brings about, rent Citizen X. I'll take my 'soaked in blood' American culture over that cluster-f*ck any day.

There is a lot more that I could say on this subject, but I will just go find a tissue now.

This American definitely knew about them. I was growing up in Buffalo at the time they were caught and the last victim was about the same age as me. It disturbed the ever-loving shit out of me for quite awhile that summer. But I think that it also sparked off my eventual recurring interest in serial killers, which I can't seem to shake.

I'm really of two minds about the making of this film. I really feel for the families of the victims, but considering there have been endless movies made about other real life serial killers, it's just another one to add to the list.

I rememeber this whole thing only too well (my Aunt lived on the same street as the Bernardos) and used to have nightmares about poor Leslie Mahaffey. What that girl went through and her body being dismembered after all was said and done. It was horrible.

I also will never forget the frantic call from a friend of mine screaming at me "It's him, that's the guy...that's the guy who almost raped me" when Paul Bernardo's face was plastered all over the Toronto Sun when they made the connection he was likely the Scarborough rapist.

It was just scary all around.
