Perming your hair is a sign of self hate.
In Blackfolk, littlebreeze asks why black women straighten their hair. People immediatly start falling on both sides of perming verses non perming. Allegations ensue of self hate, slavery, and laziness. The thread gets both Hasselhoff'd and Whitney'd, but the wank just keeps on coming.

Boy, people can wank on anything!

I love black hair in all it's glory! I had one black friend (actually I had many, but this one in particular was a very close one) in university and we totally envied each other's hair (at least I envied her natural "kinky" hair and she loved my natural silky loosely curled hair - both of us would do things to alter it - she to straighten it, me to make it more curly). :P

In the 70's I used to get short hair perms so I had an afro. Nothing looks sillier on a white kid than an afro, but it was mine and I loved it.

Actually, I love hair period. I'm vain about my own, and really like hair of all types, but I especially loved black hair. So soft and so very, very curly. :)

Isn't the same arguement made about white people wanting tans? Hell, the only reason I tan is because I look half past dead if I don't. Some color in my skin is preferable to none, which makes me wonder why the hell white people are called white anyway. For crying out loud if I look at someone "white" they're either a blotchy pink or toasted shelled almond-y color for the most part anyway.

	I'm pretty sure black women straighten their hair because... they want straight hair. I mean that's why I do it, and no, I'm not black, but I can't imagine they have such radically different motives. And I don't hate myself or my Arab heritage. I just hate the way my hair turns into a six-inch 'fro when I sleep on it funny. (Reply to this)
