I'm very tempted to point out that believing that you are correct with that much bull-headed blindness to the other side is about as delusional as the otherkin or whatever.

....Would also point out that by his definition Jesus was a lunatic in need of meds, since he believed he WAS the son of God, and if we follow that line of thought, Christians are just as crazy for following him. But hey, Christianity is mainstream belief, so that's okay!

Believing you have abstract, non-physical adjectives at the core of your being is fine.

Believing you 'are' a hobby or job, even stated in exactly that phrasing and despite absolutely no DNA evidence, is entirely understood and accepted and requires no explanation.

I don't understand the whole otherkin gig at all, but that kneejerk "You all need medication" thing is uncreative and uninteresting, not to mention poorly explained. I've always taken it to mean that Otherkin have found traits within themselves that are typically ascribed to certain mythical creatures - dragons, unicorns, mermaids, phoenixes, etc, etc. This *actually* isn't all that uncommon - I've seen an entire book on the subject. They just don't *call* it Otherkin. (the book was actually about 'What mythical creature are you most like?' but it *was* the same deal - I came out as either a unicorn *or* a mermaid, surprisingly enough)

Another good example of this stuff is the tattoo I have behind my right ear. It's the kanji for 'Phoenix'. When people ask me why I have it, I tell them that 'it's my animal'. No one has ever called me crazy or asked me if I missed my dose or whatever.

I mean, Gods, really. This stuff isn't new, people!

I fail to see how the otherkin thing is somehow more delusional and illogical than anybody else's spiritual beliefs. There is completely insane non-rational stuff in every religion and set of beliefs. Hell and heaven and souls and magic and gods aren't any more or less real or sane than dragons, darlings.
