I was dared to post it.
The title from the thread in my lj is, Negros and Gays and Goat Fucking Meanieheads -- Oh MY!

It all started with the following post on the Argument Forum of Practical Pet Care:

I am ashamed of this country. Here we claim to be "free" an yet we are limiting rights for people every day. If the law to ban gay marraige passes, i swear i will pull one of those "blow up the govt building" stunts like that dude in texas in 1995. (ok maybe not that far) is anyone with me on this one?

That's not so bad, really.
Poorly worded, perhaps, but the poster is 14 and based on what I've seen from their other posts on the site, they're also a bit of a spaz.

Quite a few people (mostly white, none of African descent that I know of) took serious offense to the use of the word "negro".

Bits of some of the best replies are below. There were a few sane replies, but most of it was just a hilarious read.

And if you think that bombing a Federal building "stunt" like the Murrah Federal Building in 1995 (in Denver FYI) is an appropriate reaction to a gay marriage ban, you are seriously whacked.

It might be offensive to African American Users on this website to use the word "NEGRO". That was totally out of line! What the heck are you doing anyway Jordan?! Maybe stick to" Animal rights issues". Let gay persons work out their own issues. They don't need your help.

Then Synecdote comes in with a long winded religious based reason as to why gay marriage is wrong. It's rather well written, but has quite a few logical holes in it.
In it, Synecdote likens letting homosexuals marry to goat fucking being okay.
I immediately thought of Albus Dumbledore's brother.
A few responded telling him that he was wrong, nothing overly amusing.

4) Hedgemom...wtf is wrong with YOU? I was exagerating about bombing and I said so in the post! That part I will not apologize for. I am 14 and even if I truly wanted to (which i DONT) I couldnt even get my hands on the stuff I would need to pull that off. You really need to think before you judge people that quickly.

5) Lilman- if I am sooo evil for writing that word in my post, then why didnt you mention it in your earlier response to my post? I find it interesting that you only started disagreeing with me (or expressing it at least), when you noticed that the other admin, mods & experts were argueing with me. Give me a break! You're supposed to be my friend...but instead you go kissing up to the mods...Now I'm not saying we shouldn't disagree on anything, but come on! Ive already got enough people on my back. And by the way if i "just let the homosexuals fight for themselves"
it wouldn't get anywhere. The issue is about acceptance of others differences, no matter what.

	The favorite incidental part is the self-righteous "correction" of how the Murrah building was not in Texas, but in Denver. OKLAHOMA, HELLO! Not all those states in the middle are the same. By the same token, let black people work out thier own issues. I'm not sure why gay people should fend for themselves but black people need a CRUSADER FOR JUSTICE!

Call me odd, but I didn't think the word "negro" was racist. I thought it was a very outdated term that now sounds too much like a much worse word. It's stupid to use it, but no inherently racist.

Or am I just stuck in a little language time warp?

Seriously, there are SO many worse words she could have used.
I can think of at least three off the top of my head.

Negro is outdated, but I didn't think it was an "OMG HOW COULD YOU?!?!" word.

Now I'm fondly recalling classroom freak outs whenever some hapless classmate would mispronounce Niger.
Oh that was always fun to witness.

That sounds hilarious.

It reminds of the time I asked a teacher if the word "negroid" was really a word or was the author making up words. (I think it was Darwin describing the evolution of humans and saying something about "negroid facial features.")

Boy, that teacher got really mad at me for asking that in front of the class.

I have one better: a ditzy classmate of mine in middle school would always, always, ALWAYS mispronounce "organism" when it was her turn to read it from the science textbook. She would say "orgasm".

And she wasn't even doing it on purpose-when someone finally corrected her, she freaked. I love stupid people, they make me laugh. :)

It's mildly rude, but no worse than cracker or limey for offensiveness (IMO, but I've yet to meet anyone who was particularly offended by cracker or limey..), mostly it's an outdated term and what came between colored and black for what African Americans preferred to be called by the world at large.

Bleh. I always have to put "white" on surveys and applications. There's no option of, "Mostly of German descent with a dash of Native American and Romanian." Nope. I'm just "white". I was actually informed that I did not qualify for a phone survey because they had interviewed too many white people.

Have I mentioned that I really hate the race section?

There were implications in the Harry Potter books that Dumbledore's brother had been arrested for doing "inappropriate" things with a goat.
It's never specified as to what he actually did with that goat though.

Does "judge not, lest ye be judged" ring a bell? (commence wank) I actually have a theory about what people take out of doctrinal texts for a philosophy or a religion: it's what I call "seek and ye shall find". If you look for something in a given text, consciously or unconsciously, you will find what you are looking for. It's a very basic function of the human mind, and it causes certain beliefs and prejudices to snowball one on top of another.

Translation studies degree programs are indeed useful in real life. *snerk*
