Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood:WTF

It's time for another childfree wank!
Boy, don't know where this came from, but just the first line was enough to spark my wank sensors:

"It’s so grueling reading all these entries." Which it may be, but then she follows it with a stern finger-wagging rant that concludes with the wank-sparking "What a hateful, immature, waste of time this community is."

Yeah. And it just gets better from there. Apparently [info]pen15club is under the impression that the childfree community is there to cater to what she feels are valuable discussions on the true meaning of childfree.

The members and mods disagree, and [info]pen15club responds with defensiveness, whining, and nonsense.

More interesting than your average troll, this one.

Edit: In case zannechaos deletes it, here's the original post:

It’s so grueling reading all these entries.

“I was in the store and you wouldn’t believe what this four-year-old did!”

“At church today some idiot brought her THREE whining brats and they sat right next to me, I wanted to THROW UP the whole time.”

“I had to baby-sit my brother’s STUPID little girl, it was so terrible.”

Have we all been listening to ourselves? Did it ever dawn on anyone what “childfree” actually means? It should be used to empower women, not cause more complaining in the world. Child-free is something that we all have the choice of being, what a wonderful country we live in, right?

In this community everyone is using something that could generate wonderful discussions about women’s liberation, feminism, politics, etc, as a means to generate post after whiny post about a 2 year old, god forbid, crying on the bus.

PEOPLE!

You aren’t thinking about the children, the mothers, or anything at all relevant to a community that bases itself around the idea of choosing a life without having to give birth and raise children. You are taking personal situations concerning ADULTS who lack good judgment, and basing all of your thought around that.

Some adults, like some children, are annoying in public, rude, noisy, messy, and loud.
Some children are intelligent, polite, self-sufficient, and quiet.

What a hateful, immature, waste of time this community is. If no one can offer up anything useful to me, my beliefs, or women around the world, I’m out.

And some of us don't want kids of our own but don't mind anyone else's.

But she's gonna get ripped apart.

*Shrugs* If she doesn't like reading that crap, could try should stay away from childfree. It works for me.

I can see, though, someone wandering in, in search of posts like "How do I get my parents to accept I'm not gonna have kids" or the like, and then being knocked silly by what was actually there.

I was actually considering going into that post myself before I started hearing a lot of the ire that was therein. I'm now continuing the search for a community that's more "child free personally, but still thinks kids are okay in concept".

That's sort of my attitude; kids are fine--for other people. Getting my father-in-law to leave off the 'hinting' was easy; I just took my huband, and moved to another country.

I suggest starting one.

I'm not childfree myself, but I am friends with many who are. Except the ones who hate kids. Mrr.

I'm quite willing to leave it. I thought about deleting it because it turned troll, but... Yeah, good stuff in comments. Sometimes things like this force people to think on the -why-, and we get good replies we can use like stock footage later. ^_^

Azraelle might make the call to delete it as she's the boss, but for me, it stands.

I wasn't 100% sure it was a troll immediately; it seemed more like someone getting a case of the st00pids. I've seen other more clearly obvious troll posts/accounts I've removed and banned without even a good-bye.

Sadly, she'd have a point if she wouldn't whine and hector. Most of the posters on that board are pretty much lacking in any sort of cohesiveness or theory in their thinking. And you'd never know from reading there that being childfree is actually supposed to make your life happier and less stressful.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to look up some statistics on domestic violence against pregnant women, though.

There aren't many good ones-- Slate just had an article on the WaPost's (I think) series on deaths of pregnant women, and they talked about how confusing the information is.

Dear pen15club:

The "reply" button is your friend. Use it instead of the "post new comment" button.

Love,
l_t

P.S. - I love when you replied to your own comment and asked yourself why you were replying to a troll. That was priceless.

Isn't it customary to read the posts on a community and get a feel for what the atmosphere of the place is like? What's the point of barging in, hanky a-flappin', and whining about how everyone else's posts don't meet her expectations? Meh.

Yet another case for the People Are Lame And Stupid file.

If it didn't look trollish at first, certainly the multiple replies to her own entry along the lines of "I like this one Simpsons episode..." and "You people are funny lol" were a dead give-away.

Unless she really *is* braindead and couldn't get the hang of that nifty "reply to comment" feature. O_O

That's the reason I didn't delete it at first. ::nods:: It wasn't until the later comments that I and another mod started getting suspicious as to the actual intentions of the poster. I figured it was just a typical Drama Queen "I want the world to work the way I want and you need to gratify my desires or I'm leaving!" post at first, which is why I bothered with a longass intelligent reply.

I can agree with her point, but then she turned troll. The community angers me, as well...there's a difference between choosing not to have children and being hateful towards (and perhaps frightened of)them. But, ya see, in that case, I just don't go there. I'm never going to convince them that kids are people, too (they just require a little patience...they're still learning), so I keep my hand out of the cookie jar.
