Public schools and monkeys and typos, oh my!
Rip-Off Report.Com is a website dedicated to reporting suspected consumer scams, ranging from the supposedly free iPod deals online to, in our case, school corruption.

R's children attend public school, yet they are not in the "in crowd." According to R, You gotta be in the "click" to survive this school.

He proceeds to post several instances wherein children were disciplined in the school:

One kid 12 years old had a cd player on, the bus driver yelled to him about something, when the child didnt respond the bus driver went to him, screaming in his face and actually ripped the headphones off his head.
(Child wasnt part of the in crowd)

BUT that was ok according to the school.
I have seen my kids and thier friends receive 7 days of in school suspension for "talking back" to the teacher.
( niether child was part of the in crowd)

According to R, the teachers are the problem:

These teachers need to understand they are CIVIL SERVANTS!!!!!
Nothing more. They think around here that because they have the title of teacher and are reffered to as MR or Mrs that they are god like?
Gee, maybe I should go grab a BA a become a teacher to help my kids keep thier popularity, Afterall, anyone can do it.

Jack replies to R, insisting that he needs to improve his spelling and that many of his claims are false, including his assertion that students were not disciplined for smoking weed on the bus.

R wanks back, and he's even nice enough to include a warning:

(****CAUTION THERE MAYBE TYPOS WITHIN****)

He goes on to tell us:

The school is a family tree! If you have a "known" family, you are taken care of. In a small area almost everyone is related in the school.

And it continues, with a self-made prom king and various members of the Monkey Clan all wanking away. Also be on the lookout for the commentary from Viktor of Ukraine. It's priceless.

Initially I knew that the main focus on this post would be the use of "slang" language and/or spelling errors. Typically thats the way this system works. To beguile the initial point! So feel free to "pick" away at any typos.

I guess this guy likes to "put" quotes around "random" real words to make himself sound "educated".

Embarrassment should not be the goal of discipline. In the past, we hung people by the neck until they were dead for their wrong doings. However, today, just imagine what society would be like if people were still punished in that fashion. Many classrooms still use discipline systems in which fear of embarrassment is used to elicit performance from the students...

Uh... what does hanging have to do with embarassment? I'd always thought that people were afraid of being hung because of the whole death aspect, not because of the embarassment. I guess it's that Earth logic thing cropping up again...

I have so much love for Viktor.

It's the popped eyes, swollen tongue and, um, involuntarily swelling of other areas that afflict males being hanged. Poor corpses. There's nothing as humiliating as a public erection. Ask Michael Hutchence. He's very embarassed.

On the other hand, I'm quite sympathetic to him, because schools are closed social worlds and it is actually quite likely he's in the right.

Um... I don't know. Heck, if anything, I think that the fact that embarassment is decidedly less permanent than hanging is a point in its favor.

One wonders exactly how this guy expects teachers to discpline students, if the "embarassment" of having their name written on the board is too harsh for them. Take her outside and ask her nicely not to do it, if she wouldn't mind? Slip a note into the kid's hand as he leaves class in the hopes that his friends don't notice? Announce to the class that yesterday someone did something naughty and the class should please try not to do it again?

[info]telophase had her name written on the board a number of times and hasn't suffered any negative consequences.

I always thought embarrasment was sort of the whole point. Then again, there's always the risk of some elementary school thrill-seeker taking perverse pride in seeing his name up on the board and later running off to Hollywood to become a B movie actor.

How dare those horrible teachers punish his kids for breaking the rules!

It couldn't be because his kids are horribly spoiled, disobedient brats, it must be because of an evil cult 'click' that's forcing them to be punished.

On the other hand, there are schools where the discipline is as unevenly distributed as this gentleman implies - perhaps not coincidentally, these schools tend to graduate indiviuals whose grasp of english is similar to his, as well.

True, I know that there are kids who can and do get away with murder because they're popular, or they're on a winning sports team, but with the examples he gave it seems like his kids broke the rules and got punished for it which cuts down on my sympathy.

Yeah, he could have made his case look so much less wanky by saying something like, 'Johnny/Jennie Popular was doing the same thing, but s/he didn't get in trouble, unlike my son/daughter.' As is, the fact that his kids aren't in thein crowd and the fact they are getting disciplined don't look related.

Philosophy, mythology, dead languages...

Honestly, take out algebra and replace it with logic, and leave algebra to college science majors. I've never used algebra except in algebra related classes, and my college logic/ math shortcuts class I use almost every fsking day.

Some states (like Ohio) require a master's degree to teach high school.

And if this guy has a master's then I might as well just shoot myself now.

IL doesn't, AFAIK, require it, but you can get paid more if you have it, so lots of people, if they can, go ahead and get a masters so they can get the possible pay bonuses associated with it. If they don't, then they probably save up money teaching the first few years and then take classes towards a masters.

I think if this guy has a masters than we can all say a master's is effectively useless. *weep*

Sorry this got so long, but it was just too easy.

we hung people by the neck until they were dead for their wrong doings.

now he ded from rope

The phrasing of that makes me want to giggle. Probably because the "until they were dead" part is glaringly obvious.

Our schools are just wanky this week! When they're not teaching kids to read obvious things, they're punishing children for doing bad things! What will they think of next? Maybe they'll try to [gasp] teach our children that 1+1 = 2.

I told by my son that one kid swore on the bus, he was moved to the front and told that for the rest of the year here would remain there, not only on the ride to and from school but also for any events, fieldtrips..ect....

Oh noes! I'm sure he will be scarred for life by not getting to sit exactly where he wants.

Gee, maybe I should go grab a BA a become a teacher to help my kids keep thier popularity, Afterall, anyone can do it.

I dunno, I was always under the impression that grammar and spelling were prerequisites. Not to mention at least half a brain...

As for the part about the kids having connections... well, I wouldn't be surprised and it's terrible, but that's what the world is like sometimes.

The points I made about the buses were all true. I do not know any of the drivers or monitors
but this information is accurate as it came from MANY parents and students.

So if I hear the story about the Mexican Sewer Rat ("Chihuahua") from numerous people, it MUST be true! Dah. [facepalm]

The "handfull" also use a diciplinary action called EMBARRASSMENT! I have seen this, maybe a name on a board, something that will stand out.

...If a name on the board is so traumitizing, this guy really needs more help than a non-professional can give him. But maybe teachers should start giving students cookies when they misbehave. Yeah, that's it. (How does this guy think we should discipline kids?)

This technique of fear teaching is extremely uncharacteristic of the real world and should be changed in classrooms today.

Oh, I get it. He thinks we should pay kids for going to school, and fire them if they act up. [eye roll]

They need to understand they are there to teach not for a personal gain whether social or intellectual.

Yeah, I know a lot of people who are education majors because they're thinking 'wow, being a teacher, that's the way to gain great prestige and learn a lot'.

...Okay, I'm done with this for now. The stupid is eating my brain.

I think that's seriously how they used to do it in courtrooms. "Pirate Pete, I sentence you to be hung from the neck until you are dead, and may your pirate god have mercy on your pirate soul." Or something.

Just so the defendent couldn't go "Okay, you hung me, now let me go," or something like that.

Whereas that's not a problem with lethal injection. It's...you know...lethal. So we never get people wandering out of the chamber going "okay, you punished me! Now who wants to party?!"

The lil school principal expects that when she claps her hands every child is to be silent!!! Wonder if she can make them rollover too.

R. has a problem with this? It's called discipline - every school does it. How else do you expect a bunch of hyper little brats to learn if they're not silent?

Viktor- I hope you do not think we believe you are from the Ukraine Europe.. I have had a student in my home from the Ukraine and Honey you are not it.

... they needed to have an actual encounter with a person from the Ukraine to tell them this? Although judging the residents of an entire country by the ONE PERSON you met is kinda wanky too.

This whole thread is stupid, but I've got to say... I have actually been on the receiving end of frustrating disciplinary injustices from school administrators (being threatened and physically assaulted by other students, whose actions were ignored by the school, and then later accused and grilled for 'scaring' another student unintentionally). I wrote a nasty letter to school paper. It didn't really change anything, but it made me feel better... and I like to think it was slightly more constructive than shooting splooge all over the web.
