Bloody Hell! Get it? GET IT???
Menstrual wankage on the knitting community. Yay, two wanks for the price of one! (Mad props to a certain anonymouse for the tipoff.)

[info]karencita7 posts a link to some 19th-century Norwegian knitted pads:

is this grossing anybody else out????

The general consensus: "Um, no."

Although some agree.

Someone brings up cloth diapers and snot, which gets us into a "Battle of the Bodily Fluids - Which is Grosser?" debate.

The OP tries to backpedal... and then backpedals on her backpedaling, calling everyone who disagrees with her "bohemian tree-huggers."

And then backpedals yet again, saying she missed the caption saying the things were from the 19th century. Aw. Well, at least she tried.

And the bodily fluids just keep on flying!

What with all the womynly communing about the lovliness of the moon-cycle going on in the post, I'd just like to take this opportunity to state that anyone who tells me that I should love my cycle will get a depo syringe up the ass.

I still have not figured out what the appeal of crippling pain and incredible amounts of blood for 14 days is.

/period bitchiness

Oh, I just bled for 14 days in the beginning, which IS in the "expected" range. But then I bled constantly for 3 months, and finally told my mother, who got me on the pill immediately. I still have cramps and moodswings for 14 days, though.

I figure the whole "love your cycle as a wonderful feminine magical time" thing is an overcompensation for the extreme shame heaped on the process.

Me, I don't feel the need to love the flow, I just mind being told that I'm supposed to pretend it doesn't happen and be horrified if anyone finds out I actually have a period.

(Oddly enough, we had a girly stuff long discussion on MetaTalk recently. It just wasn't wanky enough to post.)

I like that she disagrees with... handkerchiefs. Because, apparently, anytime an article of clothing gets dirty we should burn it. Or cover it with quicklime and *then* burn it.

No, I am not grossed out. You know what I think is FAR more offensive? Those stupid Tampax tampon commercials that teach teenage girls they're supposed to be ashamed of their periods, the girls in those commercials are obsessed with hiding their tampons. There's even a new wrapper on the market that is supposed to be QUIET so the girl in the next stall doesn't hear you opening the tampon! Because that's just the most embarrassing thing ever! *eye roll* :\ I hate that there's millions of dollars being poured into ad campaigns that instruct young women they should be ashamed of their bodies and hidehidehide.

Just because it's natural doesn't mean I have to like it. Geez. Being a somewhat private person I'd rather not let the whole world know that I'm on my period, or whatever I happen to be doing in the toilet. And I don't particularily want to know what other people are doing either.

And actually, most girl these days don't seem to be ashamed at their bodies at all judging by the way they dressed. I don't see why we should embrace our bodily functions. I mean, how many people out there owe up to doing a fart when around other people?
