Current mood:Bitch, Please...

Someone failed logic class...
So Harvard released a report saying that PG-13 films have gotten progressively vulgar. This isn't too surprising - movie critics such as Roger Ebert and James Berardinelli have been saying it for awhile.

Of course, Thomas Carder thinks that this means CAPalert has won and that American films should be judged by CAP standards NOW!

Choice quotes:

Scanning through the article I find, point by point, the CAP Analysis Model provides and has always provided that which is claimed to be needed but absent from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating system: that indeed the CAP Analysis Model could replace the MPAA. And the CAP Analysis Model provides it OBJECTIVELY, not vulnerable to mood and preference subjectivity so YOU can be in a better position to have the information YOU need to make an informed moral decision whether a film is fit for your kids (or yourself).

Yeah, because basing a rating system on the Christian bible is totally "objective."

CAP Alert! I love CAP Alert! It's hours of entertainment, especially when you try to find the lowest score you've ever seen.

I'm at 15 right now, although I must point out that Matilda was apparently so bad that the guy couldn't analyze it, so I'm not sure how that affects the scoring.

And is it just me, or is the term "R-13" really, really wanky just by itself?

Freddy vs. Jason got a flat zero on one of the scores, not sure about the others. But it scored fantastically low.

*sniff* I've never been prouder...

Dogma has a 6, but I think that's one of those movies that just shouldn't count.

My favorite is ScreenIt! Reviews, because of their excruciatingly detailed point-by-point list of potentially objectionable material. And my favorite of those is from Muppet Treasure Island, where they say:
All of the pirates, including Long John Silver, have bad attitudes.

Well, duh!

I used that .as my sig for a while.

Lowest score for a movie I actuallt saw: American Psycho. In the review, I found this gem:

# Impudence/Hate (I)(1):
# sexual obsession over business cards

So. Fucking. TRUE!

Matilda? Isn't that a kid's movie? What's so wrong with Matilda? I only saw half an hour and it seemed fine--is there some secret scene with lesbian orgies and crack-smoking?

Wow. First impression: The web design on that site is horrid. What's with all the flashing GIFs? My eyes!

Question: Every single one of their confusingly crowded images leads to link with explanations. I don't understand those explanations. In all sincerity, can someone explain their red-light, yellow-light and green-light thingies? Who the hell thought up the system of "Red does not mean stop and green does not mean go"?

The yin and yang one is amusing. Worn with the dark on top signifying evil over good or Satan over God is a relatively confident signal of its use to represent evil.
Oh-kay!

About the pyramid found on US money- This icon is to say to the observer that the "eye of Satan" is watching, especially in finances.

Now that I don't understand. They made up a lie when there was perfectly good truth to foam at the mouth about! The pyramid is actually- gasp!- Masonic, and the All-Seeing-Eye is the eye of God (not God-God, though. It's the Masonic conception of God, and everyone knows that Masonry is an evil, anticlerical pagan religion. My bishop told me so) surveying Creation. I mean, adding in that little detail could have made it so much more interesting than ordinary "folk-tales".

I like how every page of the site has a plea for donations. "We need your money so we may keep telling you what to watch and to pay for our really unecessary and ugly gif. images!"

Look, just get rid of the flashies, okay? God hates an ugly website. Repent now before he sends you to Hell.

Also worth noting...Alien Vs. Predator got a 73. Other than a lot of violence, it was aparently not much of an affront to God. We'll have to try harder in the future.

Proves that they are crooks... AvP was such an abonimation against all that is good and holy, and lets not forget simple logic, that it at least rates four smacks to the back of the head for the director on the moviegoers violence scale.

IIRC, wasn't the original Miracle on 34th Street considered objectionable by the League of Decency, because _gasp_ it had a woman who had the audacity to be both divorced and a successful businesswoman?

Oh! Oh! I love CAPalerts! Hours of amusement!

I just had to go look up Hero (which I just saw last night) and as it turns out, the following are Offenses to God:

- lots of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" flying
- suggestion of using unholy forces (I'm not sure when that happened, but whatever...)
- running on water

And then on the murder/suicide thing:

"suicide by sword impalement for love, two" Which I read as "suicide by sword for two" and thought that would make an interesting menu item. Heh.

Also, CAP's website is an offense against God with it's habit of making every link open in a new window. x_O My task bar weeps.

And I thought the Bible was subjective. I mean, why else would there be so many subdivisions of Christianity that all purport to be The True Faith?
