'Cause Suicide Is Painless...
xsteinbachx has made himself a new icon teaching the potentially suicidal the right way to do things.

As you can imagine, this causes a bit of an uproar.

Includes such gems as:
"It's your life, and it's ending one hour at a time. Do yourself a favour and speed it up."

And...
You hypersensative cunt, next you're going to be whining about how preteen rape isn't funny either.

Festering anal death to you.

Not to mention the posting of the lyrics to Suicide Is Painless.

Ah, suicide wank. What don't you bring to the table?

ETA: Well, it looks like he turned off the comments.

ETA2 - The Son Of ETA: And they're back. With a new icon, no less.

Festering anal death to you.

Does that mean that the anus dies, or that one dies because of the anus? Inquiring minds want to know!

Maybe it's like that part in Naked Lunch where the man teaches his ass how to talk and it ends up taking over his body.

It is tiny print? Like on icons? Or do you have Popeye forearms...?

I've actually got kind of scrawny forearms.

It's not in huge letters, but they're a clear, easily readable size. It's not that long a poem... it fits comfortably. I wish I remembered the exact point size of the font... I know that it's Times New Roman bold... simple and serif-y.

Why, thank you.

She's one of my favorite poets (the others being Richard Brautigan and Rudyard Kipling, although I'm quite fond of Christina Rossetti as well), I love her short stories, and remembering that she lived to a ripe old age gives me strength sometimes when I need it.

The tattoo artist who did it was awesome, too. Great guy, did a lovely job, and we had a fun chat while he was working. He had a light touch, too; only time I've ever found the sensation of getting tattooed pleasant.

My other forearm has the Key to Hell from Sandman. I'm a Flash Girls song made flesh.

You do remember that they told her if she didn't quit drinking she'd be dead in a year, and she whispered, "promises, promises", right? XD

Your tattoos sound very cool.

The bottle, alas, holds no appeal for me.

Those just two out my 13 (so far) tattoos. The Dorothy Parker one gets the most notice, but they're all pretty good for freaking out winos at bus stops.

I looked at the icon. And felt vaguely ill. I'm hard put to pinpoint why, other than the fact that perhaps it's sensitive to me.

[info]atalantapendrag

It's a matter of context; it's a sensitive issue to me as well. But if I saw it, say, here, I'd shrug it off. OTOH, if someone used it as an icon in one of the support communities I'm part of, I'd rip them a new one.

Besides, if they're GOING to try, they might as well do it right, because being put in a mental institution for trying to kill yourself just makes you look bad.

Um... because being in a mental institute and alive is worse than being dead?

The commenters aren't really grasping the point. It all derives from the movie. The dentist in question, "Painless Pole" Waldowski, was a camp legend for his sexual prowess. One night, he was with a girl and -- as must inevitably happen to all men -- he suffered from "performance failure." He immediately decided that life was no longer worth living if he couldn't perform sexually and set about to arrange his own death (without even trying again to see if it was just a one-time thing -- M*A*s*H* was comedy, after all, so it was all very over-the-top.) Hawkeye and Trapper John decide to play along, setting up a mock funeral and giving Painless some fake suicide pills. They put him to rest, people file by giving their respects, and the dentist goes to sleep. Yadda yadda, he wakes up horny, yadda yadda. It's an amusing scene, especially with one of the soldiers singing "Suicide is Painless" whilst the rest file by Painless lying on his "death-bed" and offering him final goodbyes.
