From the people who brought you black tipping and hair wank...
...comes radio wank.

Over in NYC, some shock DJS on a R&B and hip-hop station played a "version" of "We Are The World" with rather tasteless lyrics (the news story is here, in case you haven't heard), containing such lines such as "swim you bitches, swim" and using the slur "chink". People are pissed, and eventually the DJs are made to apologize (thinly) and give up a week of pay to the tsunami efforts. (But remember, only white people can be racist. *eyeroll*) This, of course, shows up on blackfolk.

Most people are offended and see the apology as a piss poor apology. firebird, on the other hand, finds it funny. Wank ensues.

Ah, blackfolk never cease to amuse me.

EDIT: It appears that at least the main DJ has been "suspended indefinately."

Oh yeah, they get dragged to court every once in a while for refering to homosexuals as "Pathetic pillow-biting poofs" around here. They're talkback hosts though, so I'm not sure if they actually count as DJs.

The radio station has every right to fire them as a private entity, but if the FCC levels heavy duty fines they have to make a good case for community standards. For better or worse, that's governmental censorship.

Yes, true. I'm not saying slap them with a heavy fine and bring out the Censorship Dildos. I'm just saying that the DJ sould have thought before she did something she was told was offensive--by a co worker, even. Then again, most shock jocks don't think.

I'd agree with 'futurebird' that much, but I just don't get why anyone would find the tsunami funny. That just fucking sucked. Someone even said it later on - Matt and Trey didn't even see humor in it and they can suck the humor out of pretty much anything.

Ground up and in the freezer.

Nope. Not funny.

I'm not sure there is anything the FCC can do, however. Community standards and censorship haven't gotten that tight have they? If they have it's no wonder everyone is headed off the public airwaves.
