11:59p - Merry Chris...err, happy Chanukah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice..
I know, wank on Gaia Online is an everyday occurrence, but in the spirit of the season i thought i'd present some Gaian holiday wank.
A little background: Gaia decided to create a gift wrap feature for the holiday season so when you buy something from the store you have the option of gift wrapping it to give to someone else. Well, by default the notes on the gifts say 'Merry Christmas'. This doesn't sit well with a Jewish Gaian named ciniron.
I don't want to seem like I'm bitching about every single update. I really like the latest winter costumes. But, I am a bit upset by the way Lanzer did the presents. They say "Merry Christmas!" when you wrap one and you can't open them until Christmas. I'm a bit offended by this, because I don't celebrate Christmas but would still like to give gifts to people. No, don't get me wrong! I love being able to wrap presents! I just thing all the Christmas-ness is a bit offensive. I believe in Judaism.
I started a thread in ED and everybody's flaming me over this. I ask that you don't, please. I have nothing against Christmas or giving gifts. It's a nice holiday, but I just don't celebrate it. I wish that the admins would have been a bit more considerate of other people's religions. The decorations wern't too bad, and I'm not bothered by the Santa suits and such. However, I think this is a bit offensive. Why can't I give somebody a Chanukah present without waiting for the one day of Christian celebration?
Why couldn't it just have said "Happy Holidays" and let people pick the date that the boxes could be opened?
Naturally, others disagree with him.
"Christmas isn't about religion!"
"Yes it is, it's a Christian holiday!"
"Uh no, it's actually a pagan one."
"It wouldn't have Christ in the name if it wasn't religious!"
"It celebrates Jesus's birthday!"
"It's PAGAN, i tell you!"
"It does not celebrate Jesus's birthday, he was born in the spring."
"Oh yeah? Prove it!"
"Why should i bother with proving it, i don't believe in Jesus anyway!"
"Please don't say Christmas isn't a religious holiday, it offends me!"
And on and on...along with the usual 'If you don't like it leave' and 'The mods work hard and you are a big dookiehead for daring to criticize their work.'
Happy holidays!
