More from the colorbar fad...
I want to ask a serious question. Pardon me if it offends.
How many of you actually support gay rights? How many of you actually understand gay issues? How many of you actually understand what you're doing?
It just appears to me that people are doing this and they don't really understand the significance of the flag and symbol they're parodying. I can't speak for all people in the GBLT community, because we're all so diverse in our opinions (like any group of people), but I can't see too many of them supporting a group of people superimposing fandom joys over a flag that people have died for. It really is like making fun of the Star of David, or any national flag.
I know memes and bandwagons can be annoying, and they're fun to make fun of. I even understand that you might think you're supporting the diversity of love by putting your particular love in the flag. If it were different sorts of couples, I might begin to understand where you're coming from.
But all I've seen is completely unrelated and frivolous topics which undermine and belittle something that is a serious issue.
I am quite ready to accept your flames and anger. I know you all enjoy this past-time very much, but I don't know if people realise how disrespectful it is.
I have a much angrier message at my personal LJ about this, but I thought that it would be a little too confrontational to yell at you in the journal you share these things in. I just wanted to help raise awareness to the reason why there is the flag in the first place. There's inequality and injustice, and that flag is the symbol of our hope and pride. Please, please understand that.
Again, I'm sorry if I've upset people, but I had to stand up for my beliefs. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't, and I understand if this shits you all.
Just understand that your 'fun' is making fun of something very, very important.
The personal journal is a bit snappier.
I haven't seen a whole lot of wank in the comments yet, but still...it's fifty comments (at the time of this posting) about whether memes are thumbing their nose at the gay community. WTF?

<http://www.livejournal.com/community/found_objects>found_objects</a> has a troll. (I say troll because of his icon, and his journal filled with all-caps netspeak... except for a few coherent entries he seems to have accidentally added/left public.)
gunghayfuckyou (check out his oh-so-priceless icon) is new to the community, and appears to be upset, because people are posting pictures of things they own, or otherwise haven't strictly "found." O NOHZ! WHAT CAN WE EVER DO!
First he posts a photo of a couple of people, and is mildly snarky about it. People object to his attitude. His reponse? "I'M A REGULAR COMMUNITY MEMBER. I'M JUST SICK OF THE CRAP THAT PEOPLE POST HERE. WHY SHOULD I LET OTHERS HAVE THE RETARDED FUN OF POSTING A LAME ASS POST LIKE: "LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN MY BEDROOM!"???"
Next, he posts a bunch of album covers. But it's not as simple as it seems! These album covers were posted earlier, and it seems they've shown up in the community before. gunghayfuckyou doesn't like that! He says: "for fragilefriend. since it was so0o0o0o0o funny the THIRD TIME, why not a fourth?"
Then, finally, he posts a nifty Lego creation... which happens to come along with a ( little rant. )

Ah, suggestions, will you never stop bringing us t3h wank?
This one starts when one very persistent fellow by the journal name of eurisko97 makes a post in which he suggests a feature that lets users enforce a default icon for other users on their friends pages. Because some people have fifty icons, which means that he has to upload a new one whenever someone uses a non-default. And some people have icons that are all yucky and shit. And some people are really stupid and can't tell their friends apart without having one icon assigned to each of them. After all, it's his friends page and he should be able to control it.
Ruakh disagrees.
Various people offer him alternatives for blocking user pictures he doesn't like. Eurisko97 think those solutions stupid! </a>
That's as far as its gone, but he's a stubborn little one, Eurisko97. I think he'll probably keep this thread running as long as he can.
