9:03a - One very distubing PETA wank
In WTF.Inc, [info]rikoshi shows us an awful anti-fur use poster by PETA.

YOUR MOMMY KILLS ANIMALS!!!!
(Note: It's a PDF archive. If you still want to see the horror with your own eyes, go and make sure you have Adobe Reader 6.0 installed in your PC, or go and get it).

People start commenting on how horrible it is. Then [info]phase_v, who claims to be a member of PETA, shows up and tries to explain him/herself. And people don't like it one bit.

Do NOT brainwash kids you ASSHOLES!!!

Another commenter starts talking about The Evils of the PETA Kids site.

Then [info]malchiorchick tells us about PETA supposedly killing lots of animals

And this is the wanks that spawns after that..

My opinion?

*headdesk* * headdesk* *headdesk*

current mood: Homicidal
current music: Frou Frou - Old Piano

3:16p - songmeanings.net: timewaster of DOOM (and some wank besides)
Songmeanings.net is a lyrics db/board where users can post about their interpretations of their favourite songs. Much fun is to be had by, for instance, reading completely wrongheaded interpretations of Elvis Costello's "I Want You" (which, I confess, annoyed me so much that I contributed a somewhat wanky comment of my own; le sigh). The site loads murderously slowly, but it's worth the wait. Kiss your productivity goodbye, though.

However, this is otf_wank, and so here is wank. A teeny smidge of it, but amusing nonetheless. Decemberists wank, of all things. )

All in all, songmeanings seems to be a fairly rich wank mine, if you're patient enough to dig around a bit. Enjoy!

4:07p
[info]lake_awake posts Arlo Guthrie song lyrics to the [info]literaryquotes community.

[info]regyt points out: "That's from a song, not a book, though."

And cue pretentious wankery.

[info]lake_awake: "if folksongs aren't literature, then oral tradition isn't literature, and if oral tradition isn't literature, then that's racist, elitist and impractical."

[info]discotraxx: "i think you're exaggerating."

[info]lake_awake: "We as a culture repress ourselves by allowing established academia to put relevant linguistic art on a pedastal by dubbing it the title "literature", while everything else is either pop culture or simply crap. No, I happen to believe that the dictionaries change with the public consensus on the definitions of words, and literature being tied down to the action of writing is a close-minded view. The high-art connotation of literature should also be used for oral tradition, performance, and talk. Drastic? Tearing down the illusory walls between the mundane and the sophisticated? Hallelujah, I say, Hallelujah."

And so forth. It's small, but it's WTF-worthy.
