10:14a - Wank-archy in the LJ!
Takes place in - where else? - [info]metaquotes.

[info]joisbishmyoga posts an entry titled, ironically enough, "Missing the Point..." containing the following quote from [info]bonniebluebitch:

I took a gander at the [info]anarchists community to see if it was worth joining. It seems they had some kind of major flamewar break out over the last few days. The group is now in complete disarray, and holding serious discussions about the need for community moderators.

Mildly amusing, as long as you're familiar with the concept of "irony." Or even that of "humor." Which, apparently, [info]anarchomo is not:

I know better than to expect to be taken seriously on a community like this, but just in case:

Livejournal does not provide the tools to run a community in an anarchist way. An anarchist-run community would look something like slashdot. If you have no way of addressing problems, you get the "tragedy of the commons," where most people behave themselves just fine, but a small group ruins it for everyone. The anarchist tradition has never denied that.

People respond, spooge flies, and chaos reigns once more. How apropos.

7:33p - Big Gay Rap Wank
Props to the mousie who reported this one.

Over on [info]ohnotheydidnt there is wank over Kanye West speaking out about the use of the term "gay" in the rap industry.

First of all, we have the don't say you love kittens gay people thread. Then there's the predictable rap-bashing, gay people/racism wank, and "freedom of speech" card.

We also have, "Gay" is okay, and my personal favourite, "Don't use gay because it means 'happy' but fag is worse because all it means is 'cigarette' in British slang".

7:39p - CS/Telemarketer=One True Fight
Copied from a mouse at [info]wank_report

Over at the customers_suck comm on LJ, credobacchus posts a rant about how much being a telemarketer sucks because OH NOES PEOPLE YELL AT ME.

Comments range from "that sucks" to "YOU ARE TEH EBIL FOR CHOOSING TO BE A TELEMARKETER! YOU ARE GETTING WHAT YOU DESERVE!" Most are actually fairly civil, though there are some that are more toxic than others (i.e., mattg's "I'd say that the only people that suck harder than customers are telemarketers.").

Later, heerosferret fires back with TELEMARKETERS ARE PEOPLE TOO:which stirs up the whole hornet's nest again. This time around, the comments are more heated (stigmatic chimes in with "If someone has to be an asshole to keep a job, then they either are an asshole, or they are looking for a new job. I don't feel sorry for them, either. I'm not rude, but Once I say No Thank You I hang up the bleeding phone.").

Interesting sub-threads here: 1 and 2

Finally, the mod, pezstar, makes a post clearing things up:

"If you're a telemarketer, you don't have customers who suck. You have people you're bothering who are rightfully pissed the fuck off about it. So don't post here unless you want to get flamed. I've added it to the rules on the userinfo. Telemarketers will get ZERO sympathy from me."

Whether you agree or disagree, at least the mod understands the way LJ works:

"Finally, if you post stupid ATTENTION PEOPLE STOP FIGHTING posts, such as the one posted here earlier today, I'm going to ban you. Seriously. That shit does NOTHING but cause drama. No one looks at a LiveJournal post and says "Oh, hey. This stranger thinks I'm being an idiot. Maybe I should change my opinion." They just reply snarkily and cause drama. Don't do it."

Which sound advice should last all of, oh, I don't know, three hours?

And we have a winner!

Obligatory I am Leaving post

Thank you, mouse.

8:42p - Because Bill O'Reilly scares the kids
Recently, someone (Katharine DeBrecht) decided it was a good idea to make a book for children called Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed. ... I really wish I was kidding.

The book summary basically explains it in all its glory: This full-color illustrated book is a fun way for parents to teach young children the valuable lessons of conservatism. Written in simple text, readers can follow along with Tommy and Lou as they open a lemonade stand to earn money for a swing set. But when liberals start demanding that Tommy and Lou pay half their money in taxes, take down their picture of Jesus, and serve broccoli with every glass of lemonade, the young brothers experience the downside to living in Liberaland.

So, a few people over on the Amazon.com listing for the book are less than thrilled:

Actually, the first volume in this series was titled, "Help, Mom! I Have to Work in the Coal Mine 16 Hours a Day!", written in 1894. Unfortunately, since the evil liberals initiated child labor laws, demand has fallen, and the book is no longer in print.

--

I would rather my child see Janet Jackson's breasts than read this crap.

--

Not suprisingly, given that this book was done by a GOP front, if you look at this book, you'll see that it was printed in China. Perhaps the author is planning a sequel where Tommy and Lou lose their jobs at the lemonade stand while George Bush is president because the company has shipped lemonade production to China as well.

Anyone who tries to indoctrinate their kids with something like this should consider therapy.

Of course, the book has its supporters, and are not ones to take this lying down, and even Jesus himself steps in to remind us in his ever mature fashion:

WAH WAH WAH!!! The poor liberals can't take the truth. This is a great book for kids and the whole family. Teach them right!

And we can't forget that villainous yellow sponge (and Hitler, of course):

On the other side of their two-faces, liberals are using Spongebob to push homosexuality onto our children, and teaching them a very hateful view of American history and the American government. It's about time someone stood up and made a book that teaches children the other side of the equasion. So in response the liberal hypocrites see anything that teaches their supreme absolute social doctrines as evil; I'm sure Hitler saw the counter-teaching of stuff against his will as evil too.

I think I need a drink.
