12:11a - Ben & Jerry's Wank. No. Really.
No. Really really.

So. Ben & Jerry's introduces a new flavor. Mmm, says I, clearly misguided and/or naive and thinking it had to do with the drink, or merely the colors.

Seems like the name offends some Irish. At least the junk-food afficianadoes.

Highlights:

I have written to Ben & Jerry's that the unfortunate name of Black and Tans reminds Irish immigrants of the Royal Irish Constabulary Reserve Force, which was used by the brutish British Empire to repress the Irish in their own land and was known as the Black and Tans

I can't believe that Ben and Jerry's would be so insensitive to call an ice cream such a name and to launch it as a celebration of Irishness ...it's an insult!

For St. Paddy's sake, man, go out and get yourself some rocky road! Oh, wait...that might offend someone who immigrated from somewhere where the roads ARE rocky...*eye roll*

I hear they chop up little Irish kids and put them in the ice cream.

I'm Irish (i.e. I was born there- I'm not second or third generation as many others who claim to be irish are). I'm currently living in the US. "black and tan" as a drink is not normally served in Ireland. I find both the drink and the ice cream being named 'black and tan' very insulting and insensitive. My granduncle was killed by the black and tans.

There's an apology. But the wank keeps going, 157 comments on a blog that seems to garner about 3 at most, and mostly whining about how the PC police are ruining our fun, damnit.

On </a></b></a>[info]christianitysex, </a></font></b></a>[info]swisscelt passes along this amusing quote from </a></font></b></a>[info]slacktivist:

Rule of thumb: Whenever you hear the most enthusiastic proponents of abstinence-only sex education saying that sex is "sacred," understand that what they really mean is that sex is profane.

There's some polite, if pointed, back and forth regarding the validity of this statement re: all A-OSE proponents and a tangent on nudity, and it's all polite and non-wanky...

Then </a></font></b></a>[info]starchaser57 chimes in with these words of love and tolerance )

Stunningly, people take issue with this proclamation.

Seriously, </a></font></b></a>[info]starchaser57  is wonderful to watch.  She's like a Bible-fueled Ginmar! ("I am God is right. You're wrong." Rinse, repeat)

And then there's </a></b></a>[info]hisprophet, chiming in with her +5 Broad Brush of Evangelical Generality. )

This is more fun (for an outsider) to read than it has any right to be!

Edited for grammar, some missing HTML tags, and hisprophet's correct gender.
