Most amusing is the wank over this little comment. (Frankly, I've been wondering about that for years.) I'm not sure what's going on here. Or here. Gay pride=Mardi Gras. If you don't like it, don't look at it! (Bonus: mharpold8 accusing everyone of playing Second Life.)I am not going to argue, because your views are set, and taking sides is detrimental. Lo, I suffer so. Not cross-dressing in public=low self-esteem. (Hey, look, my OMG ONOZ icon!) This cannot end well. Hey, look, gerbrilsage! And we have the obligatory someone making a thought-out point with poor spelling post.

It also makes queer rage, and drama_awesome. Morgan Freeman is cited, which is awesome.

What I find sad is that every time this argument is made, it is immediately equated to conformity and opression. "Societal norms" and comparisons to civil rights are bought up, and straw men are dragged out. And it always, always turns wanky.

A post on this community related to the "c-word" has garnered, at last count, over 200 comments. A post (yes, it happened to be mine) on the HPV vaccine received one comment.

Put in that oh-so-reasonable, not-at-all-smelling-of-"MEMEME" context, I'm sure the members of Feminist will respond in a reasoned, calm manner, perhaps many will agree with her!*

And they do... for all of six comments.

Although I do agree that women should get out there and be active, it's not your right to judge who is and who is not 'getting out of there'. Maybe some of us come to communities like this to "whinge" because we have no where else to voice our concerns (or this is the only place where we feel comfortable enough to do so). How do you know what members do with the rest of their time?

Harsh, but otherwise reasonable, right?

Melissataurus: You can find it condescending. But I can judge - I spend all day, every day working hard on feminist issues and I find it unbelievably, incredibly frustrating that I can get women to attend a share/drum circle but not write a letter to their representative. I do not find judgment threatening. I find it necessary to deciding the proper moral course.

Also you shouldn't disregard a cultural aspect. The most beautiful football is played by countries with rich dancing traditions. In Europe people don't dance. In fact they do, but that's hardly dancing that can be compared to samba, tango, salsa, cumbia, and so on. Hence the esthetic advantange of the non-European football too.

Relatively polite, but there is always the chance things could go the way of the Netherland/Portugal game.
