10:37a - Help, help, I'm being stereotyped!
Remember that wank about the video I posted a while back that basically stated that Gay Pride parades were hurting the public's opinion of homosexuality by perpetuating a sterotype?

[info]centrifuge_xeno: "You are dancing, prancing, and skipping along as an example to the entire world of what homosexuals are like. The goal here is not to scare the hell out of everyone in the process! If I go and tell people on the street I'm a homosexual, can you guess what they are going to think? They will think I'm like one of you guys D:!"

Boom goes the dynamite.

Most amusing is the wank over this little comment. (Frankly, I've been wondering about that for years.) I'm not sure what's going on here. Or here. Gay pride=Mardi Gras. If you don't like it, don't look at it! (Bonus: [info]mharpold8 accusing everyone of playing Second Life.)I am not going to argue, because your views are set, and taking sides is detrimental. Lo, I suffer so. Not cross-dressing in public=low self-esteem. (Hey, look, my OMG ONOZ icon!) This cannot end well. Hey, look, gerbrilsage! And we have the obligatory someone making a thought-out point with poor spelling post.

It also makes queer rage, and drama_awesome. Morgan Freeman is cited, which is awesome.

What I find sad is that every time this argument is made, it is immediately equated to conformity and opression. "Societal norms" and comparisons to civil rights are bought up, and straw men are dragged out. And it always, always turns wanky.

2:42p - LJ Feminism: Serious Business!
In Feminist, [info]melissataurus posts, presumbably about the amount of trivial whining (or "whinging", as she puts it):

A post on this community related to the "c-word" has garnered, at last count, over 200 comments. A post (yes, it happened to be mine) on the HPV vaccine received one comment.

Put in that oh-so-reasonable, not-at-all-smelling-of-"MEMEME" context, I'm sure the members of Feminist will respond in a reasoned, calm manner, perhaps many will agree with her!*

And they do... for all of six comments.

Contestant #7 - Masked Girl:I find your tone condescending. Although I do agree that women should get out there and be active, it's not your right to judge who is and who is not 'getting out of there'. Maybe some of us come to communities like this to "whinge" because we have no where else to voice our concerns (or this is the only place where we feel comfortable enough to do so). How do you know what members do with the rest of their time?

Harsh, but otherwise reasonable, right?

Melissataurus: You can find it condescending. But I can judge - I spend all day, every day working hard on feminist issues and I find it unbelievably, incredibly frustrating that I can get women to attend a share/drum circle but not write a letter to their representative. I do not find judgment threatening. I find it necessary to deciding the proper moral course.

In the words of [info]amphibian23: i think you've got a point. but this cannot end too well.

See melissataurus respond to every comment that either calls her on the condecending tone or states "Maybe we like whining!" with some variation of "What I have to say is important or "it doesn't matter if I'm whining".

See melissataurus trot out her resume as a wank shield.

See the thread grow to 273 posts and counting (Irony: It's what's for dinner!)

But wait - there's more! )

Shout out to [info]smokedglass7429 to tipping me off to this wank.

*And by, "agree with her", I mean "gleefully tell her to STFU."

6:15p - First wank report!
Cute_overload is at it again. This time, it's a pretty tuxedo cat with an unfortunate black marking on his nose and lip, making him a prime candidate for the site Hitler Cats

Yes, dear friends, you *have* already guessed where this goes!

One person suggests "Charlie Chaplin" or "Groucho Marx" cats. Civilized enough, but then it degenerates to:

sorry, this is NOT cute; bad taste...

please remove this entry if you leave it as "Hitler"

and

This is lame.

Hitler = not cute.

Eh?

and

I don't post that often, but I LOVE this site and check it daily.

I have to agree with a few of the previous posts-- this site is no place for ANY kind of reference to such a dreaded name.

And what Godwin-tastic wank would be complete without:

Wow. I don't really want to say anything much about this, except that I *can* see how the "Hitlercats" thing could be offensive/hurtful to the surviving folks who lived through the Holocaust.

Fortunately, The Producers and "VOLDEMORT!" references abound, so it may not get any bigger, but given C_O's record, I'm betting it will. Hee!

8:55p - World Cup mini-wank
[info]chesegundo points out Why Latin American football is superior to European football

My favorite bit?
Also you shouldn't disregard a cultural aspect. The most beautiful football is played by countries with rich dancing traditions. In Europe people don't dance. In fact they do, but that's hardly dancing that can be compared to samba, tango, salsa, cumbia, and so on. Hence the esthetic advantange of the non-European football too.

Relatively polite, but there is always the chance things could go the way of the Netherland/Portugal game.
