Over in atheism, ![[info]](http://www.journalfen.net/img/userinfo.gif) dukesnorre posts a news story about Christian protesters throwing shit (literally, excrement) on the supporters of a Latvian gay pride parade. Doom is not pleased. Many of the replies, as expected, are disparaging the protesters etc.
Then kai says:
If I'd been there, I would've been on the Christians' side...sexual alignment should not be a source of either shame or pride.
People reply to challenge that thinking, and Kai replies to inform us that:
Being proud of something means you think you're better than everyone else.
Because pride is the antonym of shame, and "being better than you" is the antonym of "being worse than you", pride equals being better than you.
Most times when a word has more than one meaning, the meanings are unrelated.
Being out and unashamed does not make you courageous. It's not like they faced racism or sexism, after all.
Having shit thrown at you is just an inconvenience.
So, in conclusion, using perhaps the wrong word to describe a reason for celebration fully warrants having feces thrown at you.

For once I can empathize with the "Oh God they live near me" response. Lolz. Trolls. Photoshopped Macros. Flames. Political Incorrectness in the guise of "being awesome", Godwin's Law, splinters from the head desking. Oh wait that last one was me.

Troll_lady insults somebodies musical taste {Probably this post here,} in a earlier post and when the original poster of said post disables comments, troll_lady uses the above post to “apologise” for her hurtful remarks. The post itself isn’t really wanky, {in as far as photoshopped macro's go} but rather what occurs in the comments as perfect_riot posts many, many tasteless Sophie Delezio* jokes:

Some people find it funny. Most people don’t.
There’s also a nice little debate on the merits of political correctness and someone running about calling people ‘fag’s for no apparent reason.
Oh! And it now continues in this post, when proof_im_human tries to change the subject. Unsuccessfully. {One of the tricks is to not mention your changing the subject, I'd suspect.}

Flaming aside, bad jokes are the bedrock of this nation. A nation built by English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh criminals and persecuted people from Europe to East Timor strives on jokes that are a little questionable in content. It's Unaustralian to not find them funny.

Am I the only one who thinks that troll_lady gave it away with her username, and is surprised that anyone takes her seriously, ever?

There's been some what of a media frenzy around Sophie, applauding her and calling her brave, fund rasing, etc, to the point that there has been a backlash. A backlash of what, I'm not entirely certain, but enough that I've noticed the backlash more than the source articals.
