What the font?
On 1001Fonts.com, Typologic puts up a font called JayCons, in which letters come up as selected Japanese characters.

Which causes a wank-almighty because they're *also* Chinese.

Language books fly, education and cultural background are invoked, and someone's real name is used as an insult.

Maybe his name really is *David Taylor*. Maybe his mom reallllly liked asteriks. That would be funny.

Yes Japanese did evolve from Chinese and in the transition some new Japanese characters were created

You mean, like how Russian evolved from Greek? <mutter>Yet another reason for introductory linguistics in high school ... </mutter>

They must mean the writing, rather than the language. But on the face of it .. shyeah.

I just think it's funny that anything written in the "Japanese" font would come out looking like Chinese and would effectively be gibberish.

Seriously though, the hell do you use it for, your next "kewliez" kanji tattoo? That alone makes my inner linguist cry. I'm not touching the debate.

It's probably intended for web and graphic design work, rather than writing English. I downloaded it a long time ago (I don't think that typographic is the creator) but have never used it for anything except background noise on graphics.

That was painful. I liked You're all wrong. It looks like Mexican to me though.

Seriously- what would "Mexican" writing look like? Mayan hieroglyphs?

Actually, I figured that was a joke. The Mayans did go as far North as Mexico, but I think that Mexico was mostly Aztec country. It's been a long time since I studied the region though!

Ah- see, this is why I shouldn't read F_W late at night, my funny-detector needs rebooting.

I think Mayans were a bit south of Mexico (it's been a long time for me, too) but I'm not sure if the Aztecs developed a written language. I got distracted by thier hardcore human sacrifices.

<useless information>The Mayans were actually centered on the Yucatan peninsula--they DID have cities in Mexico, but also in Belize, Guatemala (Tikal!), and Honduras.

And the Aztecs didn't have writing; they just had a sophisticated pictographic mnemonic system. They might have developed a full-fledged writing if they hadn't gotten steamrolled by Spain.</useless information>
