wanking: not just for the knitting comm anymore...
So _coziesales makes a post to the crochet community about selling some ipod cozies. Um great, except, this is a crochet community and the stuff she (they?) is (are?) trying to sell can be made in about ten minutes so there's no way in hell that anyone with a hook and some yarn is going to pay $15+ for them.

But apparently since this is a public forum, this all makes perfect sense and is legal. After all, you don't tell someone to pack up their store in a shopping mall.

So scroll past it! Nope, selling on livejournal is against the TOS and... hmm, apparently we have a sock puppet? By the way, 46 is "too old to be engaging in LJ drama" but I don't have to act mature 'cause I'm not 46 and don't live in a trailer park.

Somebody call in the mods! But that leads to bulemia and more white trash, and a picture that horrified my roommate when she just looked over my shoulder...

By the way, am I the only knitter/crocheter who despises the term "cozies"? But that's a bit off topic.

Have fun.

ETA: get it while it's hot... it's been reported to LJ TOS already so it might get taken down soon (I've saved part of it in case.)

Gone now, but have at it: saved until bandwith is ded

And I always thought crocheters (crochetters?) were such docile people. Those dainty little needles. I don't know.

But am I the only one who sort of snickered at the haughty PCness of this comment? No? Okay.

Wow, those cozies are fugly. I wouldn't pay $2.00 for them, even if it were charity. I'd just donate instead.

http://www.foofpod.com seems to make nice ones. Plus, they have TWEED!

I love tweed. The sound of the word makes me so happy.

Mmm, shiney crochet wank. I figured it was only a matter of time. We're nicer than the knitters to be sure, but that was out of control.

On the up side, that bitch'll never sell anything.

And I seem to remember someone posting those before and saying they were for friends.

Man, I should've saved it while I had it open. The OP was playing the age card on some 15-year-old girl who told her to stay on topic or STFU.

If selling is against the TOS, how come there's communities like garagesalejapan and things like that?

[info]altera

Dunno, is it actually against the TOS or not? Bugs the hell out of me when ads are spammed to communities NOT designed for selling shit, but I don't care that much.

No, it isn't. They changed the TOS a couple of months ago. I'm not sure if the change is live yet, but if you open a support request to the abuse team and ask if it's okay to do it, they'll tell you yes. It's illegal to make money off your journal by ads I think, and by selling things that belong to LiveJournal (like taking money to hand over your username) but otherwise it's okay.

Entire journals dedicated to "look at my art and pay shitloads of money for prints"...

Huge online auctions due to accident/medical bills/tuition being due...

That not making any sense as a rule whatsoever...

Yeah, it's either not a rule or it was snuck in during the past week by some smartass who saw his pink slip coming early.

Crochet wank... crochet... wank. Somehow those two words just aren't gelling in my brain... As for the covers themselves, there's no way in hell I'd pay $15 bucks for those ugly little buggers. My iPod's got more class then THAT damnit.

By the way, am I the only knitter/crocheter who despises the term "cozies"?

I can do neither, and I hate it with a raging, hatey hate. I will allow 'tea cosy,' because that's what the damned things are called, but it is my understanding that iPods, remote controls, etc. do not in fact need to be kept warm.

For some reason, the term "cozies" always ALWAYS reminds me of the erotic Martha Stewart website and I think of penis cozies.

Hm, this seems to be my only knitting/crocheting-related icon. Anyway...

Same here. Tea cozy is okay, because, as you say, there's a purpose in keeping a teapot cozy and warm. I have been known to make covers and such for various items, mostly to keep them from getting lost and/or tangled with yarn in my knitting bag, but I tend to use the highly technical terms "bag" or "case" for them. The term "sock needle cozy" never crossed my mind. Well, until just now.
