Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
It started off innocently, and cutely, enough.
Background: a mother decides that her daughter's an artist. She makes a DeviantArt account. She puts up her four-years-old daughter's for view. People complained about the, well, scribblings.

Mummy dear retaliates!

Just in case of bahleetion, I'll paste the retaliation in all its glory:

Kahlyn's art is not only welcomed by DA it was FEATURED by DA. Kahlyn IS a 'real' artist, and I would thank all nay-sayers to find something better to do than pick on a 4-yr-old.

If you pick up a tool, and make something. It is art. Despite age, quality, ethnicity, political Lean, or any other discriminating factor, it is still art. It still means something, and it still comes from the heart.

4 million years ago, the oldest human ancestors pounded flower petals and minerals into paste, and drew stick figures on a cave wall, to document their lives, to save their stories, to make their souls immortal. That was "shoddy workmanship" but it was the beginning of everything you see here.

Every Artist begins somewhere, and whether or not this one was my daughter, from a strictly pyshological point of view these pieces are are deep. They bespeak love, and hurt, and life in simple honesty.

Your art does NOT do that. And if you are so stuck up as to think you are better then you have no right calling yourself an artist. If you can't pick up a Pen and draw your heart you have no buisness even reference art as a strongpoint, because it comes from noplace worth looking at.

If your so vain or so stupid as not to know that, than please don't waste anyone't time with your shallow narrow-minded idiotic banter. Art is art, no matter who makes it, and anyone who defines it by quality obviously doesnt remember the first time they picked up a tool and tried.

Takes the "MY child can do no WRONG!" parental delusion to a whole new level.

Her art looks startlingly similar to what I did in kindergarten. *am glad my Mom is a sane woman who never thought I walked on water*

What a loon!

The kid is cute, the art looks like something any kid her age would do. Now I'm all for saying every kid is an artist, but this is pretty ... uh... special. Newsflash, mothers: Your kid is not Newton or Picasso or whatever. Try to get over it without scarring them for life by wanking about it.

I also remember knowing a couple of kids with mothers like that. It was rather offputting. I was afraid to be friends with them.

They bespeak love, and hurt, and life in simple honesty.

More likely the kid's thinking "oooh, pretty colors!"

In other news, I really hope this is a troll.

And if your kid is Newton or Picasso or whatever, the world will figure it out without you foaming at the mouth about it.

Did the child consent to have her work posted on the internet? Can a child of that age consent to have her work posted on the internet?

What about a photograph of herself?

I'm less worried about the quality of her work, and more worried about the amount of respect going on for her wishes (that possibly can't be expressed yet).

No, it's not the best art in the world and it's probably better on a fridge than on the net. I But I wouldn't be so irritated by this if someone on childfree hadn't decided to go a-trolling and started the whole mess. Someone sought this out, posted about it, and decided it was a good idea to be a jerk because it was a kid. Not that this is the best art since the dripping clocks (the name, I forget it!) but damn, can't a kid ever just draw and be praised?

Wow... way to wank Mom! I mean, it's one thing to be proud of your kid's work, but it's another thing to go all frothy at the mouth about it. You know what? I'm just going to ignore the rest of the wank and look at the cute little drawings some more. It'll be much better for my mental health in the long run.

Yeah, its cute ... but if I was that kid, in 10 years time, and found out that my mum had done that - I'd have a seizure.

And it's not like there's horrid artists on there that are probably closer to the mother's age. At least if you pick on them they can retiliate personally.

And you have no respect for the feelings of a 4-year-old girl.

Um, logic says that if the kid even knows about what these people are saying, the mom is either letting her read comments at a site for adults or telling her about them. Neither of which speak much to having respect for responsible parenting, let alone her feelings.

Though, because I am a horrible, bitter person, the mental image of some mother telling her adorable blond daughter, "The men on teh internets say you suck! Paint harder!", maybe as she cracks a whip, makes me snicker.

We have achieved bah-leetion! She deleted the journal entry and posted a duplicate one, presumably to get rid of the comments on it. (Check the date on the latest one.)

...I wish she'd proofread and not keep cut-and-pasting the same thing over and over again, complete with three(3) spelling errors, "are are", three(3) instances of Random Caps, your/you're confusion, missing apostrophe, then/than confusion, "noplace", and the baffling, "...you have no buisness even reference art as a strongpoint, because it comes from noplace worth looking at."
Yes, DA allows editing of journal entries after posting them.
