baaaaabyanimals vs. childfree
The scales of Wank Justice are pretty evenly balanced on this one. Both sides had me rolling my eyes.

Over on baaaaabyanimals, [info]rhinecat posts a picture of a baby quail. She uses an icon that compares newborn kittens to newborn human babies, with results unfavorable to the Homo sapien.

[info]weirddave, who is a moderator, apparently gets a complaint. In a display of friggin' brilliant modly judgement, not only does he post his request that [info]rhinecat remove her icon publically as a comment to the post rather than speaking to her privately about it, he himself uses a picture of a newborn human in his own icon - and this one is flippin' the bird.

A couple of people comment on the double standard.

The denizens of childfree, scenting someone who likes babies about, show up and dogpile, because that's what they do.

The mod digs in his heels and bahleets the post, but happily it has been archived elsewhere.

The King of Kings and Mod of Mods steps in to smooth ruffled feathers. There is some continued bitching, but eventually everyone gets distracted by baaaaaby hippos and rhinos. Mysteriously, the mod who started the trouble no longer appears in the community info.

The denizens of childfree continue to hash it over on their own community, because that's what they do.

ETA more links to relevant childfree threads.

Yay! Perpetual wank and whining! Ah, blessed childfree. Never change. It's not a happy day without the urge to simply wander through, presenting a random infant and watching them recoil like vampires and crosses.

I love how [info]goescrunch apparently thinks that cats take care of themselves if you just "pour food in their bowl" and scoop their box. Oh no, they don't need love, affection, medical/dental care, brushing... I love to emotionally neglect my cats! Neurotic cats are funny!

I wonder if she actually owns a pet?

Perhaps she has a large dustbunny that she thinks is a cat.

Well... you don't have to send them to college. And you can spay/nueter them, avoiding the risk of having more than you started with...

But then, the puking on the carpet, the shedding, the having to vacuum every other day...

Yeah. Cats are work.

Hmm, my cat has never puked neither does he shed that much. The only 'problem' is that he's too hyper, like a hound pup. But that is mostly fun.

Mine are crazy-hyper as well, so it evens out. But one sheds like crazy and I can never brush him for more than a minute at a time, so it gets everywhere... He's the one that pukes, too.

The pretty ones are so much trouble.

Well, actually, neurotic cats ARE funny, but I get what you're saying. :D

Especially my cat, who is utterly retarded. I mean, really, she is the stupidest cat I've ever known. But I love her anyway. *sighs*

And we have an exit declaration!

That's what this was... Oh my.

Suddenly, I'm deeply saddened that people who would rather have pets than children aren't welcome.

I don't think I will leave. I shall leave. That fact that the post was taken down makes me feel that the negative have already managed to censor.

How do you make that trememdous leap in logic?

I don't think I will leave. I shall leave.

how does this parse? honestly?

If you read it as "I don't think I will leave. I shall leave," it makes more sense, but she should have stuck with the same helper verb for both sentences, though.

you're right, it does. the only consistency in my life is the distressing habit I have of making myself look like a moron.

So, basically the childfree comm encourages trolling.

Just another check in the asshat column.

To be fair, I think quite a few of those involved were member of baaaabyanimals well before all this started, just because 99.9% of the whole world is on baaaaabyanimals. Is it trolling per se if you don't join the community just to do it?

No, it doesn't.

Mod gave the smackdown yesterday/today.

Just because some of the members are shit-stirring asshats doesn't mean the community condones it.

So... is the moral here that if your icon isn't childfree, the mod will kill a kitten with a baby rhinoceros? *is confused*

I#m not sure, but I think the moral is, next time when </a>baaaaabyanimals comes to borrow the lawn-mower from </a>childfree, they will get to experience a nasty surprise because of what their Rupert said on the village fair about our Gladys.

It was the side trips I found hilarious -

On icons and Goth subsets: I mean, sure Jesus was pretty hardcore, but still...

and a link to a Berkeley Breathed strip where he coins the word offensensitivity, plopped in the midst of a conversation of the evil California liberals (who are controlling the nationwide publishing of textbooks, woe!) vs the Texas right wing and fundies. It is ignored, and the argument is transformed into an impromptu performance art piece. Hee!

Must join [info]baaaaabyanimals immediately. How did I miss that comm for so long?

As someone who would choose babies over kittens anyday (cos babies don't cause my throat to swell up and impede breathing), this wank makes no sense to me.

I agree. Babies taste much better than kittens. And they don't have to be skinned before you nibble on their extremities.

Silly me. I didn't even know it was an either/or proposition. I don't think my poor cat will take the news well, alas.
