Metaquotes Wank! Yet again. What would I post if it weren't for that community? http://www.livejournal.com/community/me Yay Matt is not happy about a post of his being taken down. I just posted a quote on here from a friend's e-mail. It was immediately assailed with several messages (possibly as much or more action than the community had seen all day) citing the rules, that the source was from outside LJ. I knew the rules - I thought it was the most insightful thing I read all day, and thought I'd take a moment to share it with the rest of the world. Alas, almost as quick as the barrage of comments, it was swiftly removed - all after less than a week of having the luck of being quoted myself in this quickly vitriolous group. (metaquotes is a fickle lover.) Does the source really demean the content of the message? Did any readers get to the bottom of the message after a hearty chuckle, and see that it came from an e-mail instead of a journal, and feel cheated, the message demeaned? Was this sacrosanct ground spoiled by an outside word? (No. It's only LiveJournal - cheer up. There are people starving as we type this.) However, is there another community that someone can share that will allow quotes and wisdom from outside these insular halls? (Or does this conversation require membership in the meta-metaquotes community?) He's claiming it's a joke but fun is still being had by all. ETA: BAHLETED!!! SON OF ETA: And if you're wondering what the 'insightful' email content was, it's "increasingly, i am begining to think that fame is like crack or something, and once you've been just a leeetle bit famous, you'll do anything to maintain the habit. henry rollins would rather be some lame tv host or vin disel sidekick. and really, since the hits aren't coming, and his previous job experience was smooshing heath bars into steve's ice cream, what else is the guy gonna do? is it worse for us, the black flag fans, than having to endure his 37th spoken word recording? it's a wash, in my book. lou has manhattan lifestyle to maintain. he needs some bucks, even if he is "the original wrapper" (my vote, worse song ever.) it's not like he could do emt training, and become a productive member of society as a paramedic. rock stars can't do stuff like that. that would just be humiliating." - my friend bendy, via e-mail Yes, Bendy, fame is fickle. And saving people's lives is soooo passe. |
