Mini Wank in Live Journal News!
In a true moment of 'I have no life', I decided to go reading all the hundreds upon hundreds of comments in the News journal I saw linked on the LJ main page. I'm glad I did, because there's an amazingly wanky sub thread in there where this free user whines about how there aren't enough features for them. Granted I and probably every other free user would be happy with more, but she's so obnoxious about it that it makes it near impossible for anyone to agree with her.

It begins innocently enough here with a question about a feature:

Quoting [info]coveted_emotion

hey i just thought of something else.

this new scrapbook thing... it is for non paying members also, right?

just wanted to clear that up.

Someone says it isn't available to free users and one would expect the reply to be a simple "Oh darn" or a slightly wankier but reasonable whine of "I wish they'd clarify that in the post". Nope!

aw... like never ever? i mean, i know that the paying members can test it now, but i mean, is it always going to be just for them?

thats another thing, stupid livejournal. stop giving the paid users so much stuff, its makes us all frustrated. because there is a lot better sites out there that give you more options and features, and if you keep doing things like this, then you will lose all your people.

Things still aren't that bad yet, but with posts like that, you can see it's about to erupt.

[info]ladylynx explains (with slight annoyance) that people are not going to leap off LJ like rats from a sinking ship.

They won't lose all their people and since nonpaid members don't pay, they can afford to lose them. I won't miss a good percentage of them. If it weren't for free members, extra Scrapbook storage space wouldn't cost so much for paid members. We have to pay for everyone.

And then [info]coveted_emotion gives us the wank to end all wanks. Honestly, if this post had a soundtrack to it, it'd be Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes.

fine then, maybe everyone should just switch to greatestjournal!

you get all the paid benefits of livejournal for free!

i started out over there, and thought it was great. the only reason i switched was because more people i knew were over here. now im starting to wish i hadn't, because frankly, this website has gone downhill. there are no new features, and the only new ones are going to paid people. this sucks. it downright sucks.

seriously, on greatestjournal, you get a photo album/hosting source for free, you can have all the user pics you want, and you can create your own styles, all for FREE. if only i wasn't so stupid to switch. now my journal is on here, and i can't switch without just making a really big entry with all of my previous entries on it, which would take too much time because my journal is huge.

livejournal, if you want to gain any support from us lower people, you better try to stand up to your competition and offer us the same stuff. otherwise, we may revolt, and we all know what happens when puny little peasants revolt... anarchy.

and you know what, you paid members arent what keeps the site going. if it werent for all of us lower people who make the site popular, you probably never would have heard of livejournal, and it wouldnt be as big as it is today. dont we deserve some recognition? give us some features, this just isnt fair.

i am serious. livejournal, you are going to lose a lot of people if you keep giving all these cool new things to only members. take for example, the online RPG, outwar. in that game, the only way to get good is to buy points online. but who actually does that? its just not fair to everyone else. and you know what is happening because of this? people now hate that game. its becoming less and less popular. they are trying make their website more appetizing, but it just isnt working. the same thing will happen to you.

if this gets worse, im moving. and i wont go down without a fight. ill tell everyone i know to move to greatestjournal, ill start communities... believe me, i know how to fight. i can make a difference.

this is my complaint for the day. i just really hate it when people try to sucker money out of you by tempting you with cool things. its not fair to the 85% of people who have unpaid accounts. shouldn't you try to please the majority of the population instead of a select few? consider yourself a government. what would you do? give money to the wealthy and powerful, or try and help those struggling in poverty? i rest my case.

Later she makes a 100% fangirl comment, hitting several fandom laws, I'm sure.

ah, yes! i love how my stupid, insignificant comment could get this many replies.

and another thing, you people need to calm down. you are all like swearing at me and being all hateful. its not nice to be mean. have i ever done anything wrong to you? i think we all need a lesson in meditation and sereneness.

and why are you so angry? whoa, calm down everyone! its not like i really meant anything i said, or at least i didnt mean it by heart. i do think its unfair about all the extra stuff paid users get, but in reality, i was just trying to make the longest post i could. that, and i was also in a bad mood. i had to take it out on someone.

anyway, aren't i even allowed to express my opinion? people who are this criticistic dont understand the concept of free opinion other than their own. not to pick you on, but you all seem very pompous and verbally unsound in your comments. but its ok, i guess. we all get bored sometimes. i was bored, so i made that post, and you were bored, so you replied to it.

it really annoys me when people make such a big deal out of nothing. lol

and you neednt talk of me as if im scum. ew, a "free user". lets roast her on a stick. thats like, i dont know, freeuserism? lol, im strange, in case you havent noticed.

but at least i gave you all something to talk about?

Surprisingly after this, things die down. [info]ladylynx does get in one amusing, snarky comment, however:
Oh please. Just take your one LJ friend and move to GreatestJournal already.

LJ was being good and captured all of the subthread in one go here. The rest of the comments in the actual thread aren't so bad, sans a few paying members making an occassional snooty comment here and there in other subthreads against free users (and in one case against a fellow paying member about her reasons for paying).

(Let me know if the links don't work. I somehow tend to screw those up. I got them left clicking Page Info and C&P-ing, so hopefully they work.)

The first link you posted needs to be fixed up a bit, I get this "http://www.journalfen.net/community/otf_wank/%3Chttp://www.livejournal.com/users/news/83806.html?page=8#comments/%3E"

I hate it when people who pay for a service actually get more stuff than those who don't. That's so unfair. LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF ANARCHY! FRANK IS GOING DOWN!

Er, yeah.

Personally, all I ask is more icon space. Give me that and I'll shut up.

Agreed. it's so hard to go from my 500 icons here to my 15 there. I panic. "Where's my Neji icon?!? Oh wait, it's on JF. DAMN YOU, LJ!"

Damn, I love your icon. Claude/Leon is my favorite fluff pairing and it's a shame that not many people seem to like it. <3

Sorry about the coding. I can't for the life of me figure out the problem. I use the regular ole standard HTML and the address copied and pasted, and for some reason it just comes out looking like that. I checked it, and I linked it right, it just comes out that way. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'd be glad to edit it if I knew the problem.

So sorry everyone!

Well, I just peered at the source code, and the only thing I noticed that was odd was that both links had some extraneous symbols: after the a href=", there's a & lt ; (minus the spaces), and there's a & gt ; at the end of the link, before the closing quotation marks. IIRC, those are the codes that will create greater-than/less-than brackets in HTML. I have no idea how they got there, but, er, see if there's anything like that in the code for the post itself...?

Hmm, conuly's there, but she's not wanking. *scratches head*

And what is it with people thinking that the Internet should be like the government? Seriously, keep the Internet taxes, Congress, judicial system, and lawyers (of course) far, far away from me. Although a fandom_wank filibuster could be interesting.

I know! Next thing she realizes, she'll have to pay for things in the real world! Le gasp!

Personally, I was amused by the fact that she's comparing LJ to an RPG. Does that mean we're all little emo sprites, wandering around this Internet in search for more points to level up?

[cackles evilly] Mwahahahahah! I loved GAIA. I even pulled an April Fool's joke in the General Discussion thread last year that had ten pages of people telling me to 'fuck off and die'. It was fun.

GAIA-"We wank for anything, for we are souless, humorless fucks who think we are so smrt for hating everyone else!"

You forgot - "And we wouldn't know correct English if it smacked us upside the head."

I swear only one in two hundred people on that site can type properly.

Oops, you're right. And considering the amount of people that go to GAIA, you're probably also right about how many can actually type.

I only noticed that ater posting this, but since it's not really interesting enough to edit the OP for, I thought I'd just note it down here.
