We're the smart ones and you're just copycats! Nyah! Nyah!
Welcome to The Right Fangirl a group for those who like right-wing celebrities and politicians and love to squee over them! All this would be well and good, but then they've got to throw some elitism in.

(Maybe not too much of a wank, but I get tired of the "we're smart and you're stupid, nyaaaaaaaaah!!!!!" brand of politics.)

I think this has a great potential to be wanky.

But part of my sympathises, a little with them. I don't agree politically with the conservatives in the slightest. But I think that it's a perfectly fine and dandy thing to have a place to squee over the ones who you agree with.

And I'm not just saying this because about the point when I ran into the "Slashers for Peace" I had a minor heartattack about inappropriately mixing fandom and politics.

Yeah.

I support a progressive political agenda. But the only way the progressive agenda is going to win is to coopt the mainstream. National Healthcare, equal rights and the rest. And present them as a mainstream.

The interest and influence that people who write slash have on the Bush administration is 0. It's actually negative, because really, when it comes down to it, we write gay porn. And gay porn is not a selling point for 99% of the united states.

And, I realize I will be pillored for saying this:

My right to birth control, health care, representational government, and the like are more important to me than fanfic.

I don't mix the two.

I totally agree.

The only politics fanfic should be involved in is fandom politics. And even then not if you can avoid it...

Fanfic on one side, politics on the other, and never the twain shall meet. [No, I can't believe I just quoted Kipling either >_<]

Eh, I agree that I don't understand what slash has to do with war, but sometimes a fandom has political associations attatched to it, whether they like it or not...

My Aladdin fansite is part of a collective promoting tollerance because of all the crap Aladdin fandom went through after 9/11. One list I was on got hate mail from someone who thought we were terrorist symathizers for liking an American cartoon set in the middle east, and in another one I got into a flame war with a girl who took the opportunity to rail against Muslims and Catholics, among others, and claim that Aladdin and Jasmine aren't Muslims because they're actually good people. :P I may not like that people associate my fandom with terrorism, but it's something I've got to deal with. That sucks that you guys got pulled into that kind of crap. It's a movie. It's a great movie.

Luckily my fandoms are fairly apolitical. I'm sorry you guys had to put up with that stuff.

Yes, but their definition of 'conservative' is so weird.

I don't think I have ever been mistaken for a 'progressive', and here in California, a lot of people consider me the next best thing to a right-wing lunatic (despite my being libertarian, pro-choice, pro-queer, yada yada).

So far as I can tell, they like Bush, and they like Bush's cronies. Yet they also claim to not be homophobic and to be pro-gay. And they don't see any contradiction in this.

This confuzzles me greatly. I mean, I probably am more 'right' than 'left' especially on economic issues. But I'm not 'right' according to their lights!

I suspect they're F_Wankers themselves, what with the 'fiff' in the interests.

But is Bill O'Reilly not conservative enough for them or something? They've got Gary Oldman and fake people like Snape on that list along with Sean Hannity.

Citizens demand equal opportunity Bill O'Reilly fangirling!

Why poor Snape? Cranky and demanding /= conservative: I'm living proof.

Or is it the whole 'former vocal racist' thing? (Sorry. See? Mean, cranky, nasssty liberal.)

I can actually see Severus Snape being a right-winger, but Sirius Black? I just don't buy that.

I wonder how they determine what a right-winger is. Just because you have some views that fall to the right(like I do), DOESN'T make you right-winger.

I'm guessing Bruce Willis and (heaven forbid) Arnold Schwarzenegger aren't conservative enough for them, either (Arnold for sure, I bet).

On a related note, I'm now reminded of that CEO Dreamboats sketch from SNL from awhile back.

Word to the word power of word.

Also "liberal media". Or, even more gut-bustingly hilarious, "liberal media conspiracy". This from the poor oppressed people who are in complete control of the government.

I'll grant you that but on LJ it seems like 'conservative' is the bad word. And I friendslocked my journal (and defriended a couple of people) for a while during the first part of the war because my friends were the only people I trusted not to leave nasty messages about some things I felt very strongly about and was having enough trouble pulling together in my mind.

I've also been annoyed on LJ with the assumption that because I was on certain peoples' friendslists (or even just that I was on LJ) I was 'poly', which I am not.

I personally think we could do with not turning any of these things into curse words.

I recently wrote a 3 page letter to our president. It was an assignment for school, yes, but I loved doing it. I simply adore the final paragraph. Read on:

Can I have some of the ego that she has in such obvious abundance?
