It had to happen... Pope-related wank.

When The Sinner goes off on one, it usually does it in impressively insane fashion.

Here, we have proof that the Pope is the Antichrist in Greek. They're probably just getting started.

Catholic BS vs Protestant BS. Huzzah!

It's like Ireland, in a way.

Amusingly, I'm from Belfast myself.

I feel right at home reading this thread. In the bad way.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm having a bit of a wank about this kind of shit myself (I was raised a Catholic - though it didn't work - and the person I am wanking discussing it with is a Protty). If it gets really interesting, I might post it here.

I'm wating for the Terri Schiavo vs. the Pope wank...

I mean: how did he dare to die the same week, taking all the attention from her and her family's greed mourning?

So if the pope was the antichrist and the antichrist is finally dead, why do they all still fight about stuff? The good side has won. It's the end. Game over. You can all stop now.

its also interesting to note that many of the first popes were freemasons

Awesome. But what about the Illuminati? And the Knights Templar? And how does this tie into the "Secret Protocols of the Elders of Zion"? And in what chapter do we find out that the Pope was actually a big meaty handpuppet controlled by aliens?

It's not everyday that you see little patronizing statements like:

And yes, I've heard of the Reformation... you might have gathered that history is a little conceit of mine.

and language (from someone else) like:

You can kiss my arse. Someone died, whoppdefuckingdoo.

in the same wank. I am very amused.

That made me laugh so hard I hurt myself. Maybe it's somewhat less hilarious in context, but alone...

I'm hoping it IS purely a conceit and not their major...

My favourite:

The only good thing I can say about him is that he did an amazing Yoda impression...

What an epitaph!

I'm just finding it hilarious that they cancelled an episode of Crossing Jordan out of respect for the Pope because the storyline features the death of a Nun.

Crazy.

Haha. It wouldn't have been the first time I did that myself. Maybe I should have stuck to the same handle here, but I wanted dana in LJ but the name was already taken.

It heartless to say, but I don't care about the Pope's death, I mean there will be another one, there always is.

Also have to share. I got someone wanking at me because of my thoughts on the Pope:

Me: As a person who was never Catholic, and has no plans to convert to any of the monotheistic faiths his death means little to me.

Anon: I am not sure if you are not a Catholic but if you are i am more upset. That was very disrespectful toward not only Catholics but the Pope. I cannot believe that someone would write something like that for the public to view. Whatever religion you are, i know that all people, ESPECIALLY Catholics would respect you at your time of death.

It was deleted by the OP before I could go in for a smackdown. Damn, I hate it when that happens.

A conversation between me and a co-worker:

ME: "The Pope's still lingering."
HER: "Well, he said he wanted them to use any means possible to keep him alive."
ME: "So what happens if HE slips into a 15-year vegetative state? Can they elect another pope if he's not exactly dead yet, or are we just gonna be popeless for a while?"
HER: "I dunno, I'm not Catholic."
ME: "What are you?"
HER: "Lutheran. My Dad thinks the Pope is the antichrist."
ME: "I'm an atheist. To me, he's just a guy in a funny hat."
HER: "So why are we talking about this?"
ME: "Because 'Pope' is fun to say?"
HER: "That works."
ME: "Pope, Pope, Pope."

I clicked around the other topics on the message boards...

The two moons of Mars, Deimos and Phobos, orbit in retrograde direction. They also revolve in orbits that have no particular relationship to the orbit of Mars.

Their surfaces are severely pock-marked and their shape irregular. They are small, and invisible to the naked eye.

Jonathan Swift reported their existance I think it was some 150 years before their discovery in 1877 by Asaph Hall (in Gulliver's Travels - Laputan Astronomers). How did he know? One possibility is that he heard of a Chinese report of the catastrophic event in the solar system mentioned above, when Mars was seen to pass between the earth and the earth's moon - causing catastrophic changes on the earth - including changing the length of the year, and the seasons (evidence of mammoths preserved in ice with tropical vegetation still in their mouths).

Ohmigod SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP! *head explodes*
