I'm on the "politically correct, hate anything Christian" liberal side of the culture war
Neil Gaiman brings us some wank. And no, I don't mean Neil Gaiman is being wanky, but that he links to this review of a book called Leah's Way, which includes at the end an email conversation between the reviewer and a disgruntled representative of the publisher.

Enjoy. :)

I've been involved in fandom way too long, because my knee-jerk reaction to Sue Eccleston was, "Psh. Sockpuppet."

Waahahahahaha

"unprofessional".

So what's flamer a reviewer and being patronising to them, then, if not unprofessional?

Wow @@; That's a pretty intense knee-jerk reaction to a bad book review - you'd think the reviewer had gone and shit on each and every one of "Sue"'s ancestor's graves or something.

And she even broke Godwin's law! In only three e-mails, no less.

Ah, Neil Gaiman. You find such amusing wank.

Sue's response even invokes Godwin's law (scroll down to the bottom).

That last response is so utterly Christian. I'll have to keep this link handy when people start telling me how wonderful Christian-run businesses are.

That's one of the most spectacular flights off a handle I've seen from someone in a professional (-snerk-) capacity. Simply stunning!

*applauds*

Honestly, she managed to pull every "wronged author" cliche in the book, including bringing the Godwin, and she's only the PR person. Imagine the author's response...

Everyone who thinks Harriet Klausner is an unbiased, legitimate reviewer should compare her reviews with the blurbs from the book jackets sometime.

Someone brought up that Klausner is basically fed copy from publishing companies and didn't even read most of the books she reviewed when she got named a top bibliophile by the departed Books Magazine a while back. Klausner, to my knowledge, didn't take any pains to deny the allegation, but I might be wrong - and in any case, reading her reviews, they sound highly suspect.

I'm Christian and I had to read that book for review; it sucked, and I said as much. Ideology is no substitute for character development. Figures that it's self-published; I never bothered to research the company - getting through that thing once was punishment enough. Give me Flannery O'Connor any day of the week.
