Dude. What the fuck is [info]wicked_dolly's damage? [Bad username: sinister_minister] was vaguely wanky in places, but w_d is just. What? Why? Who? I've seen cars with stickers dating back to the eighties! WTF?

Seriously. I'd love to see that guy's reaction to my "Beatles in Help!" t-shirt. He'd probably crap himself.

Paranoid much?

I always just take for granted that people driving SUVs didn't get their CDL license and don't know how to drive a car that big and get the hell out of the way.

That's what I thought. Did this guy know for sure that it was his bumper sticker that inspired the road rage? What if he just cut the guy off?

So I'm reading all these stories about road rage and people getting threatened and their cars getting vandalised just because of their bumper stickers, and I'm thinking "bloody hell, America sounds like a scary place", and then I see this:

I guess it's not as bad as Europe though, where people are killing each other over soccer games.

Is that normal? Do all Americans think Europe is full of murderous football fans? And does that mean that America is, in fact, not a scary place?

No, no, and yes. We're scarier than Europe, but not that scary.

I don't know about the rest of Europe, but I certainly envision England as a vast, idyllic countryside of rolling fields through which soccer hooligans drive double decker buses as they drink tea.

It's like any place- there are scary parts and quite idyllic parts. You just never hear about the idyllic parts because nothing ever happens there.

I love the HRC stickers. If you know what they are, you can be all "Whoot! Go ugly SUV in front of me!" But if you don't know what they are, they have nothing on them telling you what they represent.

And thus, no asshats.

I've always loved the questions involving my HRC sticker.

"What's the equal sign for?"
"Equal rights."
"For who?"
"..everyone..?"
"..but for who?"
"Everyone. You, Me, Captain Fabulous, Queen Butch, King Minority, and Lord Teeming Millions."
"So it's not some .. agenda group?"
"..er, not really."

I suppose it could be considered part of the liberal agenda.. but, yeah. :B

I don't understand why the "Support our Troops" yellow ribbons are synonymous with "I Support Bush." My parents and I all voted for Kerry, yet we have those yellow ribbons on our vehicles because a childhood friend of mine/family friend's son was a soldier overseas until recently (and the family friend gave us the ribbons). I wasn't aware of the other connotations of the ribbons until recently.

It's probably because people think "support our troops" means "support the war". A lot of people don't seem to realize you can want to support a bunch of people thrust, willing or unwilling, into a situation they have little to no control over, without supporting the situation itself.

Er...I gotta chime in with you here. They have another meaning?

I remember during the Gulf War, they were symbolic of troop support, not a particular political party, and it's gonna kind of piss me off if EITHER party has co-opted them to convey a political message. Jesus, asshats, they're PEOPLE, not planks on your platform.

The thing that bugs me about those is that if you want to support the troops, then do something to support the frelling troops. Like, until I had supa-stealthy ninja!money problems sneak up on me, I was sending big goody boxes to "any soldier," and I still do get letters and post cards off to the troops who want them. Buying those dumb magnetic ribbons is just showing your support to the factories who make them.

*grin* I was the one who posted the "self-appointed bumper sticker police" comment. I was really trying to keep from wading into that one with both feet and the "you're making the tribe look bad!" cluebat. That's a generally pretty calm community, but once in a while we get some real trophy-winning asswipes.
