Itsy-bitsy vegan!wank
Not that huge, but still amusing.

[info]justlisten writes in the guinea_pigs community on LJ:

"how many of you are vegetarians/vegans? the reason i feel this is related is, a lot of you (including myself) have rescued guinea pigs, and do what we can to not support pet stores and to not support cruelty to animals. do you apply this to the rest of your life?

personally, i have been a vegetarian for about 4 years.. unfortunately, i took a break for a few months where i did eat meat. it was a bad choice and i deeply regret it. i plan to become a vegan in the next year. however, when my boyfriend and i first got our guinea pigs.. and ever since then, my boyfriend has been much more interested in animal rights. now he is a vegetarian, and is hoping to become a vegan very soon. i think that owning animals, (especially any animal that is consumed for food in certain places), makes you realize that animals deserve a place in the world too.

if this is unrelated, i'm sorry.. but i feel like it kind of does relate. when i see a cow, it is no different from my 3 guinea pigs at home. it is living, breathing, feeling, loving.. it deserves to live."

Everything seems to be going along okay until a few people disagree and someone else points out that a vegan diet isn't always an option. The OP bares her fangs. Predictably, it escalates, the OP makes a few "OMG eating meat means you like to make animals suffer!!1" posts, and eventually the PETA is mentioned.

If you'll all excuse me, I'm off to rape a cow eat a steak dinner.

eating meat is like drinking water that has been filtered through a sewer.

Only if you're eating decomposing meat that's been left out in the rain. Eating meat is better and more life-assuring than anal sex!

WTF?

Aaaaand there goes Godwins!

I know I shouldn't find this as hilarious as I do, but...

but how can you look into a cows eyes and just decide that you are going to take its life because you are HUNGRY?

Hey, I could look into its eyes with a come-hither glance. but sometimes hamburgers are better than sex. Being alone with a cow definitely strikes me as one of those times.

Besides, taking its life for some reason besides hunger strikes me as unnecessarily psychopathic. What should I do, look into its eyes and say, "I am Wank Prophet. My father choked to death on a cube steak. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

It's quite easy because steak is damn tasty.

Actually, what I was thinking when I read that, was, "How can you look into a cows eyes and not think, 'Man, that is a piss-stupid animal'."* Same goes for the cute, fuzzy sheep. ESPECIALLY the sheep.

*disclaimer: I have known some smarter than average cows, but unless the new definition of "genius" is lazy-ass who sits around eating and farting all day, they were the exception and not the rule.

I like to annoy my vegetarian boyriend by pointing out that, in terms of intelligence, there ain't much difference between a cow and a potato. Except that the potato might have a slight edge.

during the holocaust, hitler and his followers were going to "kill those people anyway".. but people still stood up and said that what they were doing was wrong, and tried not to support it in whatever ways possible. people wanted to make a difference for the future, and they did.

Mr. Godwin? Call for you, line 7.

don't consider yourself in the food chain. you don't hunt down your food. you eat animals that had their beaks and teeth ripped out so they couldnt even begin to defend themselves.

So...it would make it all better if I went mano-a-mano with the chicken, right?

how can you look into a cows eyes and just decide that you are going to take its life because you are HUNGRY?

Easily. Cows are just mobile plants as far as I'm concerned. Granted, I don't eat everything that's non-sentient...but then, my cat is mostly fat and I'd be picking fur out of my teeth for weeks.

My favorite part of the wank was the OP's stance that one should take oneself out of the food chain.

Um- last I heard, plants were in the food chain.

And dammit, now I'm hungry for a good steak with a spinach and feta salad. (Not the boiled shoeleather they pass off as steak in my college cafeteria)

Well, I guess as a meat-eater who also owns rescue guinea pigs, I'm automatically the Cavimorphae Antichrist or something, then?

The scary thing is, I've met people like this in real life; seemed convinced that, as a vet nurse, it was my moral obligation to OMG! Be vegan! or some weird thing. To which I went, "huh?", then proceeded to graphically explain the rabbit leg amuptation I'd assisted on earlier...

*really resists urge to wander over to that command point and laugh loudly*

I love animals.
I work with injured birds of prey and get them released back into the wild.

I also acknowledge that there are predators and prey in the world. (There's also scavengers.)

Humans are a predatory omnivorous species, that now works in a more scavenger style.

We eat meat. It's okay. Chickens are prey. They exist to be eaten. Their whole point in the food chain is to eat seed and then be eaten themselves, dammit.

I'm a vegetarian, yes. I own guinea pigs, yes I do.

But I am NOT as batshit as that girl. I'm not going to harass you into not eating meat, because that's your opinion and vegetarianism is mine. It's a free country, you have the right to your own opinion, capisce?

So it's steak for you and tofu for me.
